From the Classroom

We have had such a wonderful and positive beginning to the year in Foundation! It has been a joy watching our students settle into school life with growing confidence, curiosity and big smiles. Starting school is such a significant milestone, and we are so proud of the way our children have embraced all the exciting “firsts” that come with it.

There have certainly been many special moments already — our very first day of school, our first whole-school assembly, and even our first cupcake stall! Each of these experiences has helped our students begin to understand what it means to be part of our wider school community. They have shown courage as they’ve entered the classroom each morning, responsibility as they’ve learned new routines, and enthusiasm as they’ve joined in with new activities.

In the classroom, we completed our very first reading task. Students practised recognising the first letter in their name, an important early literacy milestone and then enjoyed decorating it in their own creative way. It was wonderful to see the pride on their faces as they shared their work and began to recognise letters in their friends’ names as well.

We also took our learning outdoors for our first hands-on maths activity. Using natural materials such as leaves, sticks and pieces of bark, the children created patterns and talked about repeating sequences. This was a fantastic way to combine creativity, movement and mathematical thinking, and the students worked beautifully together while exploring their ideas.

We think our Foundation students have done a terrific job navigating all of these important “firsts.” They are already showing resilience, kindness and a willingness to have a go, qualities that will support them throughout the year.
