Learning about other cultures through Culture Week

Culture Week was a vibrant celebration of the many cultures that make up the Emmaus community, led by our Secondary students. 

Throughout the week, students educated their peers about different cultures by sharing personal stories, experiences, and traditions during assemblies.

The celebrations began with a Culture Week Parade, followed by a range of lunchtime activities including henna, pottery painting, an Italian cultural experience, origami, and Kahoot quizzes. 

Secondary students also visited classes at South Plympton and Brooklyn Park Junior School, engaging younger students in cultural learning through interactive games and activities such as Conga, What’s in the Box, and Guess the Country.

On Wednesday, students hosted a BBQ fundraiser in support of the M'Lup Russey and Justees Foundation. Lunchtimes throughout the week were filled with a variety of sporting activities at South Plympton, encouraging students to connect and celebrate through friendly competition. Also on Wednesday, students claimed a 1-0 victory in the highly anticipated Staff vs Student Soccer Match, with spectators enjoying a special halftime dance performance by students.

What a fantastic week of learning, sharing, and celebrating the rich cultures that make Emmaus such a welcoming and diverse place.

Year 9s raised over $20,000 for the WestCare Centre, supporting people who experience homelessness 

In Term 2, the Year 9s experienced a night sleeping uncomfortably to raise awareness about the homelessness crisis and raise money for people in Adelaide experiencing homelessness. 

WestCare are a fantastic organisation that provides 50,000 meals, shelter, hot showers, health services and crisis care to people experiencing homelessness.

All Year 9s collectively raised $20,485.02, which is an amazing effort and $2,485 over their goal!

And well done to the top three fundraisers, who spent a lot of time and effort raising awareness and funds to support WestCares' mission.

Bon Appétit! Immersive French Excursions 🇫🇷🥐

Year 10 Excursion to Maison Clement

Last Tuesday, our Year 10 French students enjoyed a delicious cultural experience at the typical French bistro, Maison Clément! 

Students sampled a variety of French dishes, from a croiffle, a delicious cross between a croissant and a waffle, to the classic steak frites. They also had the opportunity to practise their French by ordering their meals in French.

A wonderful and tasty way to experience the French language and culture!

Year 9 Excursion to Le Paris Plage

Our Year 9 French students recently enjoyed a wonderful cultural experience at Le Paris Plage. I was particularly proud to see the students confidently using their French speaking skills when ordering their food and treats.

A French customer was so impressed by the students that she stopped to commend them, saying that hearing them speak French made her feel as though she were back in France. She was also delighted that our students could experience the French language and culture in such an authentic way.

Year 8 French Experience at Adelaide Central Market

Where can you find a little taste of France in the heart of Adelaide? At the Adelaide Central Market, of course!

On Tuesday, our Year 8 French students wrapped up the term with a fun-filled French treasure hunt, discovering French produce along the way, from fromages and champignons to fresh bread and pastries.

The highlight? Putting their French into action! Students confidently used their French-speaking skills to order their lunch and treats at Les Deux Coqs, including a delicious croque monsieur and authentic French patisserie. 

We were especially proud when the owner commented on how well the students spoke French, what a wonderful affirmation of their learning!

With plenty of smiles, laughter and a few happy taste buds, the excursion was a fantastic way to finish the term.

What a wonderful and blessed way to experience French language and culture outside the classroom!

CREATIVE INDUSTRIES NIGHT 2026

Join us for a whole-school celebration of student creativity, talent, and innovation.

Creative Industries Night brings together Visual Art, Design, Music, Drama, Dance, Technologies, and Home Economics to showcase our students' outstanding learning and artistic achievements.

Date: Thursday, 15 October 2026 (Week 1, Term 4)

Time: 4:30 PM – 7:30 PM

Location: Emmaus Christian College, South Plympton

FREE ENTRY 

What to expect:

Exhibitions: Visual Art, Design, Technologies, and Home Economics displays.

Live Performances: Music, Drama, and Dance 

Building Tours: Explore the new Design and Technology facility.

Food & Drinks: Food trucks: OMG Donuts and Moi An Vietnamese Street Food on site for purchase 

Supervision: 

Parents and caregivers must supervise their children throughout the evening. 

Staff will manage event spaces and performances rather than provide general student supervision.

Performers: Teachers will contact students participating in performances directly with details in the coming week.
