Performance, Reflection & the Power of Growth

Term 3 has certainly been a memorable one! From the excitement of La MĂșsica Viajera, to hearing directly from students about their production experience, and now moving into new wellbeing learning across the school, there has been plenty to celebrate.

🎭 La MĂșsica Viajera – More Than a Performance

A huge highlight of Term 3 was, of course, our school production La MĂșsica Viajera.

While families saw the final performances on stage, so much learning happened behind the scenes. Students had to rehearse, collaborate, remember cues, adapt to changes, manage nerves and work together towards a shared goal.

For our Grade 5/6 students, this also included taking on specific cast and crew responsibilities. We saw some wonderful examples of students stepping up, helping others, suggesting ideas, solving problems and showing leadership throughout the process.

The production became a fantastic real-life opportunity to demonstrate our school values of Care, Creativity, Curiosity, Responsibility, Community and Growth.

And, of course, there were plenty of moments of music, laughter and excitement along the way!

A huge ÂĄGracias! to our students, staff and families who contributed to making the production possible.

💬 What Did Our Students Think?

Following the production, we wanted to hear from the people at the centre of it all – our students!

Students across the school were invited to complete a short Production Survey, giving them an opportunity to reflect on their experience of La MĂșsica Viajera.

We are still working through all of the responses, but some lovely themes are already emerging.

🌟 Students overwhelmingly shared positive feelings about being part of the production, with many identifying particular songs, dances, performances and roles as highlights.

🎭 Students talked about enjoying the opportunity to perform and be part of something with their classmates.

đŸ€ Responses also highlighted the importance of working together and receiving support from others throughout the experience.

đŸ’Ș Some students acknowledged that aspects of the production were challenging – and this is valuable feedback too. Performing, waiting, remembering what comes next, managing nerves and coping when something changes all require skills that develop with experience.

Perhaps most importantly, the survey has given us a chance to hear not only what students enjoyed, but also what we can learn from their experiences when planning future whole-school events.

A big thank you to our students for sharing their thoughts so openly. Student voice matters, and their feedback helps us celebrate what worked while continuing to learn and improve.

đŸŒ± From the Stage to the Classroom: Comfort → Stretch → Growth

Interestingly, many of the skills students needed during the production connect beautifully with where our wellbeing learning is heading next.

Across the school, students will be exploring:

COMFORT → STRETCH → GROWTH

We want students to understand that feeling challenged does not automatically mean something is going wrong.

Sometimes we are in our comfort zone – things feel familiar and manageable.

Sometimes we move into our stretch zone – we might feel unsure, make mistakes, need help or have to try a different approach.

It is through these experiences that we can move towards growth.

Students will also be exploring a simple learning cycle:

Try → Notice → Learn → Adjust → Try Again

And there is one very important addition:

🙋 Ask for help at any time!

🧠 What Will This Look Like Across the Grades?

Our learning will look a little different at each developmental level.

Our younger students will explore courage and trying something new, recognising the feelings that can come with stepping outside our comfort zone.

Our Grade 3/4 students will take part in creative challenges where the task may unexpectedly change! They will need to adapt, rethink their ideas and discover that changing direction doesn't mean their first attempt was a failure.

Our Grade 5/6 students will take this even further through the Failure Lab. Students will be given challenges where success may not happen on the first attempt – and that is exactly the point! They will need to test, problem-solve, communicate, redesign and try again.

We want our students to become increasingly comfortable saying:

“I can't do it
 YET.”

💛 Learning From Every Experience

One of the lovely connections this term has been seeing that wellbeing skills don't only happen during a “wellbeing lesson”.

They happened when a student was nervous before walking onto the stage.

They happened when something went wrong during rehearsal and students had to adjust.

They happened when someone helped a classmate remember what to do.

They happened when students had the courage to share their honest opinions in our survey.

And they will continue to happen every time our students try, notice, learn, adjust and try again.

What a term of Creativity, Community and Growth it has been!

¡Gracias, familias, for being part of it. 🌟
