Girls Bat Tennis District Final

A huge congratulations to our Girls Bat Tennis team, who represented Newlands at the District Final today — and came away with the win!

Newlands defeated St Oliver’s 32–26 in a fantastic final. Reaching the District Final was already a great achievement, but to finish the competition as District Champions is something the whole team should be extremely proud of.

What stood out just as much as the result was the incredible sportsmanship shown by the girls. Their behaviour throughout the day was outstanding. After the final, they even made a conscious effort to celebrate quietly so they could show respect towards the other team. It was a wonderful example of empathy, maturity and respect.

The girls showed fantastic effort, teamwork and determination throughout the competition and represented Newlands brilliantly, both through their performance and their behaviour.

Congratulations to the whole team, including their coach Nerida on an amazing achievement!

INM Division Athletics Championships

Congratulations to the Newlands students who have qualified to represent our school at the INM Division Athletics Championships on Friday 11 September.

Please see below in the image the students who have qualified, the events they will be competing in and their scheduled event times.

Families are reminded that parents and carers are responsible for transporting their child to and from the Division Athletics Championships. Students only need to attend for the part of the day required for their event or events, rather than remaining at the venue for the entire day.

Please check the poster and event program (below) carefully so you know your child’s competition times and can plan transport accordingly. If any family is having difficulty organising transport, please contact Raul so we can see whether we can help connect families who may be able to travel together.

Fencing and Lacrosse for Years 3 and 4

Last week, our Year 3 and 4 students had the opportunity to take part in two exciting sporting experiences during HPE: fencing and lacrosse.

Students learned some of the basic skills and rules of both sports through fun, practical activities. It was fantastic to see so many students trying something different, challenging themselves and having a great time with their classmates.

We are also excited to announce that fencing and lacrosse will both become new before-school clubs at Newlands from Term 4, giving students another opportunity to continue developing their skills and enjoying these sports outside their regular HPE lessons.
