What’s On in the 1/2 Learning World? 

What a busy few weeks it has been in the 1/2 Learning World! With four school performances, our students have had plenty of opportunities to demonstrate resilience, patience and support for their friends during some very busy days. We have been incredibly proud of the way they have managed changes to routines and continued to engage positively with their learning. 

Reminders 

• Parent Helpers – Reading: Please continue to come when you can, as per your arrangements from last term. Your support is invaluable and very much appreciated! If you would like to become or re-join our Parent Helper team next term, please speak with one of your child's teachers. 
• Take-home readers - It is our expectation that children read every night. Each week, we recommend taking home 3 English decodable readers and 2 Spanish decodable readers, as well as 'free choice' books from the library or at home. These can be changed any day of the week (although we remind our students every Friday!) and encourage self-management of this task as one of our weekly routines.
• Nude Food Tuesdays: Nude Food begins on Tuesdays. 
• Specialist Timetable: Our specialist timetable has returned to the pre-performance schedule.

Mathematics 

Our Tier 2 Maths program officially began in Week 7 and will continue until Week 9, with a focus on targeted addition and subtraction concepts. It has been great to see some familiar students as well as some new faces joining each group. Students may move between groups as teachers assess and monitor progress, allowing us to respond to individual learning needs and provide targeted instruction. 

English Reading

Our persuasive theme has continued through reading, using some wonderful texts including The True Story of the Three Little Pigs, The Day the Crayons Quit, Where the Forest Meets the Sea and The Lorax. Students have also continued to build their reading accuracy, fluency and expression through differentiated paired-fluency texts and choral reading.  

English – Writing 

In English literacy, we have been exploring how different punctuation marks help make our writing clear and engaging!!!!!!!!! (see what we did there??!!!!!!) We have also explored the use of modal and emotive language to persuade readers to agree with our opinions and have been using a TREE graphic organiser to plan our ideas.  After all our persuasive writing, we are looking forward to beginning narrative writing in Term 4! And students.... penguins ARE ugly! ;)

Spanish – Reading  In Spanish Reading, students have been reading and practising their mentor texts in preparation for this week's assessments. By revisiting these texts, they are building confidence with language structures, expanding their vocabulary, and gathering ideas and inspiration to support their own writing. 

Spanish – Writing  In Spanish Writing, students are planning and designing their own treasure maps while carefully editing and refining their writing pieces to include rich detail and clear instructions. They have been drawing their maps and exploring creative ideas for how to represent them over the coming weeks. Once completed, their treasure map illustrations and accompanying instructional texts to find the treasure will be displayed in the communal area. 

A Picture Is Worth a Thousand Words! 

With Book Week and our performances now behind us, we think the best way to show just how much has been happening is with lots of photos of our very busy 1/2 students!
