The Flying Bookworm

Foundation students were lucky enough to have The Flying Bookworm Theatre Company come and perform for them this week. The Bookworms performed three classic tales for the students; Goldilocks and the Three Bears, The Hatseller, and The Three Little Pigs. The interactive and high energy show was an absolute delight and has fired up our imaginations for the narrative writing unit that we will explore in Term 4. 

It was lovely to see students to thrilled, engaged, and full of joy during the performances. We were also treated to some unscripted acting and acts of bravery from a few students who were willing to get up on the stage and perform alongside the Bookworms. Thank you, Bookworms, and well done Preps for being a wonderful audience and supportive cast!

Tier 2 Maths

What a huge success our Tier 2 Maths has been! Children are working enthusiastically within their Tier 2 classes towards tailored goals with their teachers, who are working closely with them to scaffold and extend their learning. Children have become confident and independent as they move between classrooms and explore a range of materials and strategies that support their counting and place value knowledge. It has been terrific watching students using bundling, number lines, tens frames, counting on strategies, and thinking through scenarios that challenge and engage them. 

English Literacy

We have been priveleged to observe our clever Foundation students planning, discussing, drafting, and creating a range of persuasive texts this term. We are particularly proud of their recent work that reflects their care for the environment. It is really inspiring and comforting to know that our young children at school are using their literacy skills to reflect their values and that their values are so commendable. Congratulations Preps on your using your evolving skill set to show your thinking and big ideas. Your use of titles, capital letters and full stops, and meaningful text is really impressive.

Spanish Literacy

Foundation students have been using their Spanish language skills to engage with the world in increasing ways this term. The children are becoming ever more adept at discussing the weather, the calendar, and the days of the week each morning as they prepare for their day. They are role playing kitchens and cooking shows, using verbs and nouns to demonstrate actions and choose fruits and vegetables for their recipes. They are making use of the class Spanish Cookbook and creating recipes in class. Their speaking, listening, reading and writing reflects their commitment to learning and they should feel proud of their achievements.

📚 Home Reading Reminder

Just a friendly reminder to keep up with our weekly home reading routine. Each week, your child will be swapping their English and Spanish books, so they have the opportunity to enjoy reading in both languages at home.

If you have any school reading books that may be lying around at home, please remember to return them. Our reader boxes are starting to look a little bare, and we’d love to have plenty of books available for everyone to enjoy!
