This term we have continued learning about persuasive texts. We have enjoyed LOTS of picture storybooks that use persuasive language, some of our favourites have been:

For special person's afternoon we were able to share our writing skills and to try to convince our grown ups to let us have the 'Perfect Pet' of our choosing. Here are our persuasive letters and adult responses:

Numeracy

During maths we have been practising our addition skills and have begun to transfer our knowledge and strategies to help us solve subtraction equations. We have learned LOTS of strategies that can be used to solve addition and subtraction problems such as partitioning/split strategy, jump strategy using a number line, compensating strategy (rounding), turn arounds, bridging strategy (making tens), and counting on/counting back. Some of our favourite warm-up card games that have helped us build our addition fluency have been:

Go to 10

Play ‘Go fish’ and aim to get a pair that adds to 10.

Addition War

Make 30 Card game. Put cards into 4x4 piles face down. Take turns turning over cards until you make 30 or bust.

I Spy

Set up an array of 4 rows and 5 columns of playing cards (20 in total). Cards are all face up. Player 1 says, “I spy 13” (this must be a teen number). Player 2 searches for cards that are touching (vertically, horizontally or diagonally) that make 13.

Flip 10

A memory game where students have to flip only two cards at a time, aiming to equal 10. If the two chosen cards don’t equal 10, those cards are flipped back over again. If a pair does equal 10, it is collected and goes towards that player’s pile. The player with the most cards at the end wins. Students restart the game when both agree no more 10 matches exist.

Jets Gym

Jets Gym is always a favourite every year. We love EVERYTHING that we get to do at gym. Here are some photos of us enjoying our gym sessions:
