Group 21

Group 21 have continued to work hard this term, with a strong focus on developing life skills to support independence. Recently, students have explored real-life scenarios such as choosing food from menus and placing orders, including experiences like an ice-cream shop and an Italian restaurant. They have also been practising the steps involved in washing, drying and putting away dishes, helping them take greater responsibility for their classroom environment. Next, students will begin learning how to load a dishwasher and prepare simple food.
Another key area of learning has been building social skills through shared activities. Students have been working alongside each other, collaborating, taking turns, waiting, making choices and communicating with others. Each learner has made individual progress in this area while enjoying the process. Well done!
As part of our ‘Books and Characters’ theme, students have enjoyed reading engaging stories together. This has included tales about a bin chicken visiting the zoo and a fish named Zed who should never be fed bread! There is also a book about a grumpy squirrel called Tyril who tries to keep all the nuts for himself to prevent a party. We have had lots of fun reading them and talking about the characters.
Students have also continued to enjoy specialist classes in Music, Art, P.E. and swimming. In Art, they created landscape artworks and, in preparation for National Reconciliation Week, explored the story of the Wurundjeri people and created their own Bunjil (eagle), the creator spirit. This forms part of a project where their Bunjil artworks will be flown while listening to Balayuang (Boonwurrung Song) by First Nations artist James Henry.
