Arts News

We’re really excited for a big year in the Arts in 2024 with many creative opportunities including the imminent Paris Tour!

There is an Arts camp on the horizon in Week Five which all students in Years Eleven and Twelve Drama, Media and Visual Arts can express interest in and a VET Music trip to perform at the iconic Mojos in Fremantle in Week Seven.

There are also some great local opportunities. The Great Southern Youth Art Award is open and young artists can complete the entry forms now, please see the details in the flyer. This is a wonderful exhibition that will be on in the Albany Town Hall.

The Lester Youth Prize is also open for young aspiring artists to submit a portrait painting. Entries for this close on Friday 9 February.

Welcome to 2024 from everyone in the Music department!

Music is a wonderful way to get involved with and meet students from different year groups and areas of the school. Learning an instrument and playing in musical ensembles has many other benefits for overall development and cognitive functions for children of all ages.

We are all excited to welcome lots of new faces into the musical life at GSG and all the familiar faces back from holidays. An email has been sent to all families with students enrolled in ensembles and instrumental lessons with lesson and rehearsal times.

There is still time to enrol to learn an instrument or join an ensemble to start playing next week. There are limited vacancies available for trumpet, trombone, clarinet, saxophone, keyboard, classical or bass guitar, electric guitar, piano, voice, violin, viola and cello. There are instruments for hire for several of these instruments to make trying an instrument easier for families.

We are also looking for new players for the iconic bagpipes to join our Pipe Band.
