Principal's Message

Mr Paul Clohesy

It was with great pleasure this week that we welcomed some of our graduates back to celebrate their VCE results with a special morning tea. We are all very proud of the Class of 2023 and the Resource Centre was buzzing with the joy of their achievements. Our College Dux for 2023, Sophie Millar, achieved an ATAR of 98.1 which is a reflection of her hard work and commitment to personal excellence. Sophie plans to study law after a gap year and we are certain she will use her Trinity education to make the world a better place.

Our College Proxime Accessit with an ATAR of 95.65 was Josiah Ellemor, followed by Tim Mooney with 93.55 and Blake Woolley with 91.15. Congratulations to these fine Trinity alumni, and to all of our VCE students who put in an incredible effort at the end of a huge year.

While exam results are worthy of celebration, we cannot forget the hard work and commitment of our VCE VM students who also achieved incredible results. Every one of our VET students kicked their winning goal, be it an apprentice or traineeship or a job in the workforce. This is a fantastic result and I am excited to see what the future holds for all of them, but this can also be a tricky time for some students. Should any assistance or counsel be required, I encourage these students to make an appointment to speak with Mrs Julie Demasi, our Careers Coordinator. There are multiple pathways to achieve career goals and we are here to help our students with their choices and direction.

It made me profoundly proud to see the Class of 2023 as they graduated from this school. They have been immersed in a values-based education where the teachings of Jesus are part of the curriculum. They have witnessed exemplary role models in the staff who take the time to impart their wisdom and share their positive energy. They have heard first-hand stories about real people who are not as privileged as they are and have appreciated the worth of their loving and welcoming community. They are leaving this College well-informed on what it takes to be a good person, a responsible and caring adult, and we know that our families reflect these values that are more important than ever in this media-saturated and sometimes misleading world.

Mrs Natalie Holt, Mrs Jade Elborough and I spent two days at Apollo Bay with our 2024 student leaders a couple of weeks ago. We were joined by Andre Delorenzo from One Movement Colac who ran a leadership workshop for the students and guided us on a 10km stretch of the Great Ocean Walk. We couldn’t be more pleased with the entire group of student leaders and their goals for 2024 centred around how they can continue to make Trinity College the best and most inclusive environment possible for the students. These values continue to contribute to the College’s culture of high expectations and it is a privilege to see these young people step towards their adulthood with such integrity.

At Trinity we walk alongside our developing young people on their journey. When the students enroll in our College, we have a discussion about their commitments as a Trinity student. They are expected to offer respect to every aspect of their journey – to their peers, to their teachers and other staff, to their College, to their learning and to themselves. This carries the weight of responsibility and this, as we know, is part of becoming an adult. Our main aim for our graduates is that they are mature adults who put others first; who make a difference in their own world and the greater community.

This week we welcomed our 2024 Year 7 students to the school for their Orientation Day. They were very excited and enjoyed the day immensely, taking part in elective classes and getting to know each other and some of their teachers. Their journey at Trinity will not always be smooth sailing – adolescence rarely is – but we know that they are in the best possible place to become the best they can be. We thank our families for their trust in us and the privilege to witness the development of their precious children and welcome them to the Trinity family.

Finally, I take the opportunity to wish all our students and their families a safe, happy and Holy Christmas and a restful and enjoyable break. We look forward to seeing all students back here on Thursday 1 February.

God Bless.
