LOTE News French

Welcome back! Exciting things are happening for SCHS students taking French this year! 2024 marks the 130th anniversary of the annual Berthe Mouchette competition which is organised by the Alliance Française.

Later this year, all Year 11 VCE and IB students in French will be participating as well as many of our year 9, 10, and 12 students.  Some of our students will be undertaking poetry recitals while others will do an oral examination with native French speakers.  Signup to participate is already underway. We wish all participants the best of luck and we look forward to seeing the results!

Sports Captains

I trust this message finds you well. I am delighted to provide you with an update on the recent activities and forthcoming events at our esteemed institution.

The term commenced with the highly anticipated Swimming Carnival on February 6th, which proved to be a resounding success. Looking ahead, we are gearing up for the Athletics event scheduled for February 29th, accompanied by a series of engaging mini-events.

In the coming weeks, we are excited to witness the culmination of the first Senior Sport final for the year.

Senior sport, a spirited house competition involving VCE and IB students (year 11 and year 12 students), will see participants competing in volleyball to vie for the coveted trophy. The grand final, set for March 8th, will feature a showdown between Blackwood and Rothwell for Y12’s, and Rothwell against an unknown (tbc) house for Y11’s.

Furthermore, weeks 7-9 will mark the eagerly awaited return of the GBA. This year, the GBA will take on a new format as a staff and student house competition. Teams, consisting of ten members each (five teachers and five students) from each house, will engage in friendly competition, vying for an impressive trophy and, of course, the ultimate bragging rights.

For timely updates, I encourage you to stay tuned to Compass and hear directly from your dedicated house sports captains and Alesha and I.
