Design Thinking: Loose Parts Encounter

This week our Year 5 and 6 children kicked off their unit on design and technology by immersing themselves in core concepts such as innovation and creativity. The children participated in a loose parts encounter which required them to 'create' using a cork as their design base. The goal of the encounter was to create anything and reflect on their individual creative processes. Here are some of their creations:

Alexis

For my creation I used a balloon, tape, string, straws, balls, pipe cleaners, a reusable cup and a toilet paper roll.

I felt great when creating except for the fact I didn’t know what I was building.

My creation has a pink balloon taped onto the cup and then there are two balls connected to some straws. Then a pipe cleaner goes through the cup. There is also a cork with a toilet paper roll. Although I didn’t know what I was building. I had a great time creating.

Max

For my creation I used a cork, a cup, two wooden sticks and a pipe cleaner.

I felt happy and creative making it.

My creation is named Shell and she has a pink dress, arms and snowball hands and I used pipe cleaner for the hair.
