News from Three/Four
Growth Mindset
At the beginning of the year the year 3/4 students have been exploring Growth Mindset and ways in which we can react and use phrases when we are finding learning challenging. Some of the great phrases are
"Not yet"
"You can do anything!"
"Who cares if you make a mistake, just keep going"
"Never give up and don't doubt yourself"
"It might be fun, try new things"
"I am brave, I am strong, I can be confident"
Literacy
We have also been focused on using FANBOYS! What is that you say? FANBOYS is a way of remembering words that we can use to connect parts of a sentence together. We call them co-ordinating conjunctions.
We have been exploring compound sentences, statements, exclamations and commands and questions using conjunctions.
Acrostic Poems
We have written acrostic poems using the letters in our name to introduce ourselves to the class and any visitors. We have been very creative in coming up with describing words or phrases to use for each letter of our name.
Pancake Day
This week we have enjoyed pancakes as a reflection on Shrove Tuesday. We explored how this day was an important day to mark the end of one liturgical season and the beginning of another. On Shrove Tuesday, all ingredients such as sugar, flour, butter etc that were classified as luxury items were used prior to the beginning of lent. Hence the creation of pancakes. The year 3/4 students explored some of the historical celebrations by other countries around the world on Pancake day such as pancake races, festivals and pancake making. They aslo got to have some delicious pancakes. Thanks to our wonderful LSOs for assisting in making these for our students.
