In our Garden

Welcome Back to our Beautiful Garden!

Our garden has had lots of love over the last few weeks in order to be ready for students to enjoy their first garden lessons. Parents and Friends helped to spruce many or our recreational and ornamental spaces and they looked fabulous for the start of Term.

We love garden helpers!  If you'd like to join our team of garden volunteers please get in touch and let me know which time works.  email  Sara.hill@education.vic.gov.au.

Our garden program runs Tues, Wed and Thursday and parents and carers are welcome to join.  Just register at the office and show your working with children check.

Habitat

The break has enabled many insects and other critters to make the most of our veggie garden habitats and we were lucky enough this week to spot a very unusual visitor.

Keep your eyes open as there are many other interesting insects out and about including beautiful butterflies.  Remember to look and not touch!

The brilliantly blue and intriguingly named chequered cuckoo or cloak and dagger bee has been visiting our Cosmos flowers. This striking native bee gets its name because it lays its eggs in other bees' nests.  It favours nests of the blue banded or carpenter bees.

Both these types of bees are solitary and don't make hives.

Grade 1's Gardening

The grade 1's from our composite F1 grades had their first gardening session working in their garden teams.  They were very focussed and did 3 different activities,

collecting pine cones, weeding the garden paths and turning compost.  It is always amazing to see how much our students mature over the holidays! Well done grade one's from F and Q.

This week we have been focussed on our school values and all grades have discussed how we can behave in ways that show we are Respectful, Responsible and Kind when we work in the garden.

We have also spent some time finding out what everyone's favourite outdoor activity is. We had a great diversity of answers!

Happy Gardening,

Sara
