Hello, from Carolyn.

Respect, responsibility and kindness

Hello everyone,

At our staff meeting this week, we discussed the routines we are currently practising and using in our classrooms. Our aim in having effective routines in place in our learning spaces is to reduce the cognitive load for our students, to make our expectations clear and to create safe, supportive classrooms. For example, if they know that every day, they will start the day by bringing in their reading bag, diary and water bottle and will read quietly for the first 15 minutes, and they have practised all those routines so that they are automatic, then that can mean less mental load for our students, and their working memory space is freed up for new learning.
