Foundation Unit

This fortnight in Reading, we have been learning the difference between a letter and a word. Students have been practising pointing at the words when we read, and have also been looking for their Golden Words in their readers.

This fortnight in Phonics, students have explored the letter m,d,g,o,c and k. Students have been working hard to make the sounds with cued articulation actions. This supports students with speech development and pronunciation of sounds. Students have also been practising writing these letters on whiteboards.

This fortnight in Writing, students have been learning to write a personal story by drawing detailed pictures and having a go at ‘writing’ a sentence to match. Students have been using the alphabet strips in class along with the Word Wall to have a go at recording the first sound they can hear in words as well as recording known Golden Words correctly. At this stage it is normal for students to be recording strings of letters and/or symbols and the focus is on having a go and viewing themselves as a writer. This week they enjoyed drawing themself playing with their favourite toy. Below are some photos of their amazing work!

This week in Numeracy, students have been learning about one to one correspondence. Students have practised moving and touching objects as they count. We have also been learning about different strategies we can use when problem solving by creating models and drawing pictures.
