WPS Community Children’s Garden

Thanks to a wet January there are lots of weeds in the garden, but also LOTS of delicious berries and fruits. At Garden Club we’ve been busy removing the weeds by hand, so no herbicides are needed. Then as a reward for all our hard work, parents and students get to raid the berries and fruits. If your child has been to Garden Club, you may have been lucky enough to receive some berries or plums at the end of the school day.

On days when it is too hot to work in the sun, we’ve been sitting in the shade saving seeds from plants in our garden. We fold little seed envelopes out of newspaper (“garden origami”), then separate the seeds from the chaff and pods and collect the seed into our envelopes. We also practice writing the names of the plants on the seed envelopes. Sometimes the older students help the littlies with this.
