News from the Primary School

First Day of School for our Prep Classes

What a wonderful start we had to Prep 2024! The children all came in calmly and went straight to activities. They all played so beautifully together, and it was great to see some new friendships already forming. We are so excited about the year ahead and were so proud of them doing so well on their first day of school.

A closer look at the roles of Primary Deputy and Primary Student Wellbeing Coordinator

I am delighted to provide you with more details about the expansion to the role of Primary Deputy and the addition of the role of Primary Student Wellbeing Coordinator within the Primary School this year.

Malcolm Pirie is in the role of Primary Deputy. This role has been expanded from last year and includes leadership of Learning and Teaching and of Learning Support within the Primary School. The Primary Deputy role reflects our commitment to 'Academic Faithfulness and Nurturing Diversity' from MECS’ Transformational framework for Christian Education. If you have questions related to Learning and Teaching or to Learning Support that you are not able to have answered by your class teacher or Team Leader, Malcolm is available, willing, and resourced to help! He can be contacted by telephone through the Main Office or via email at mpirie@mecs.vic.edu.au.

The new role of Primary Student Wellbeing Coordinator interacts very closely with the Primary Deputy. Danny Gamble joins us this year in the role of Primary Student Wellbeing Coordinator. This role reflects our commitment to Relational Community from MECS’ Transformational framework for Christian Education. As Primary Student Wellbeing Coordinator, Danny will support our commitment to having strong partnerships, mutually supportive relationships and a relationally nurturing environment reflected across every aspect of the Primary School. If you have questions related to Student Wellbeing that you are not able to have addressed by your class teacher or Team Leader, Danny is an additional part of the team available to help. He can be contacted by telephone through the Main Office or via email at danny.gamble@mecs.vic.edu.au.

Junior Primary Faithful Foundations

Junior Primary have experienced a wonderful first week back for the year. We have been busy making new friends, catching up with old friends, getting to know our new teachers and learning class rules and routines. We are very blessed to have a whole week away from normal curriculum to set up these safe and welcoming environments for our classes where we can focus on values that we desire to promote in our learning throughout the year. These have been our themes for this week:

Monday – I have a STRONG HEART, key verse from Matthew 22:37

Tuesday – I have a STRONG MIND, key verse from 2 Timothy 1:7

Wednesday – I am WONDERFULLY CREATED, key verse from Psalm 139:14

Thursday – I am CARING, key verse from John 13:3-5

Friday – I am RESPECTFUL, key verse from Luke 6:31

On Thursday, JP students had a wonderful time visiting the bushlands at the back of our school. We reflected in our devotions about the fact that when God created the world, he entrusted us to care for the land and the animals. We discussed how we could do this in the bushlands and the children did a wonderful job caring for the plants and creatures that we found there. We also had a lot of fun playing in God’s wonderful creation with all of our friends.
