Principal's Report

Simone Roy

This week has seen the students settle into the routine of their school days. While the work constantly changes, there is certainly a clear rhythm and flow to being at school.

The discovery of a European wasp nest (now gone) near the cricket fences has prompted me to ask families to talk to their child about what to do if they hurt themselves at school (yes, a few wasp bites were sustained on the initial finding). It is really important that they let a teacher know, and if they are on a break, to go the Office. We can administer first aid, or refer to further medical treatment, as the case requires. We also keep records of this, so that if an initial injury turns into something bigger, like a sore arm turns into a broken arm, we have a record of what treatment has occurred.

Mount Beauty Secondary College is a Child Safe school. This means that we do everything we can to prevent harm or abuse to children. There are many procedures and policies that we follow to help keep our environment safe for all students. One small step we ask of families is that if they come to the school, that they enter via the front doors and go directly to the office to seek staff assistance. This prevents the situation of adults wandering around the school, and will help train our students to be aware when potentially unknown adults are walking through the buildings.

Lastly, if you have any concerns, or your child mentions things that are worrying them, please make sure you contact the Year Level Engagement Leaders as a start. You can email them or call school. No matter how small it may seem,

really small things can quickly grow to become huge issues if they are not addressed, and this is a situation we want to avoid wherever possible. Educating students takes a team approach and we rely on a strong partnership with our families to help make your child’s high school experience as smooth and enjoyable as possible.

Swimming Sports

House Swimming Sports is this coming Wednesday 14th February. We hope to see all students at the school event and even if they aren’t swimming, they can assist to earn points for their house and help to support their team.

Parents and family members are invited to attend the day, which is always a hive of activity, but also one of the more relaxed school days, where the students get to spend the whole day with their friends without classes.

Student Free Days

This year, school has a total of 5 student free days, the fifth being the whole school Professional Practice Day. Two were used last week.

The remaining dates being: Friday June 14th (Report Writing day), Thursday 1st August (staff Professional Learning) and Monday 4th November (Monday before Cup Day, staff Professional Learning).
