What is happening around the school

Performing Arts News

On Thursday we welcomed Zhao, David and Satomi from San Ureshi who performed for us their show “Life Is An Echo” presented by Musica Viva. It was wonderful to be able to share their music and see them perform the music we have been learning about in performing arts classes.

STEM

Wow! What a buzz in the STEM room on Open Night!

Students and families were actively engaged in making and launching paper rockets, trying their hand at writing code, and watching the mesmerizing 3D printers in action. It was wonderful to share a bit of what our budding scientists and engineers are doing.

Currently, our foundation students are designing and making party hats, showcasing creativity and science in action! Our 1/2 students have learned the basics of sequences and loops in coding and are now planning paths and writing code for Dash robots to follow, including movements, turns, sounds, and lights.

Students in years 3 and 4 have designed and built rubber band-powered cars. They are now testing and evaluating their cars to identify and improve design issues.

Years 5 and 6 have been deeply immersed in the world of 3D modelling and printing. Using the 3D design software Tinkercad, they have created superhero figurines and symbols. Many students have started printing their designs, learning a great deal about 3D printing technologies.

Additionally, two teams of selected Year 6 students are preparing to compete in the "Quantum Victoria Print A Car Challenge". They are designing and racing 3D-printed cars according to a very strict design brief.

Week 10 is going to be huge. On Wednesday, June 19th, we will hold our inaugural Kalinda STEM Expo, giving the school community the chance to view and interact with the students’ work from this semester. Stay tuned for further details. Also, on Thursday, June 20th, the team from Mad About Science will present a jam-packed 60-minute show of big WOW science madness for all Kalinda students! Expect giant smoke vortices, levitating beach balls, flying toilet paper, flour fireballs, hair-raising electricity, and lots of learning! Again, stay tuned for further details.
