Learning Through Play in the Preschool

Nature Play Week

Last term the preschool celebrated and embraced Nature Play Week within the program. Nature Play Week celebrates initiatives of all shapes and sizes that reconnects children with nature and the outdoors. The focus of the program for week 11 revolved heavily around nature, exploring the natural environment and immersing ourselves in play outdoors. The educators listened to the children’s voices and ideas and incorporated some of their suggestions for play.

Risky Play in Nature

Our preschool offers children ample opportunities to engage in risky play. Climbing trees isn't just about fun; it's a crucial part of children's development. When children climb trees, they are building essential skills. Physically, it strengthens their muscles, improves balance, and overall agility and proprioception. Cognitively, it's like a puzzle, challenging them to plan their climb, assess risks, solve problems and understand space. Emotionally, it boosts confidence as they conquer fears and feel proud of their achievements. It's more than just play; it's a valuable opportunity for growth and learning.
