Welcome Back
Welcome back to school for Term 2. This term is 10 weeks. We have planned for lots of fun and interesting activities this term, concluding with semester one reports. Please check the calendar in this newsletter each fortnight.
We welcome Miss Lay to St Johns Park Public School, replacing Ms Weng on 1W. Ms Weng is going on Maternity Leave and we wish her well for the birth of her first child!
We said farewell (rather quickly) to Ms Whitfield, who was an important part of our EALD team. Ms Whitfield was successful at gaining a position at Denham Court Public School, commencing Term 2. We hope to have a teacher appointed to her position soon.
ANZAC Day Ceremony
Last week, we held our annual ANZAC Day Ceremony where we listened to our school leaders tell us about the meaning of ANZAC DAY. Then we remembered all of those who have served in war, conflict and peacekeeping operations. Each SRC class representative laid wreaths under the flagpole, close to the Kindergarten rooms. Thank you to Ms Savva and Mr Carpenter for their organisation of the ceremony.
On ANZAC Day, one of our Vice Captains, Nina represented our school at the Dawn Service at Smithfield RSL. Thank you to Nina, her family and Mrs McCammond for representing our school.
P&C - Mother's Day Stall
On Wednesday 8th May, the P&C will be having a Mother's Day stall so that students have the opportunity to purchase gifts for Mother's Day. A flyer was sent out last week with details of items and the cost, ranging from $2.00 to $12.00.
I would like to wish all our mums, grandmothers, aunts and carers a wonderful Mother's Day for next Sunday 12th May. I hope it's a lovely day.

• Late applications are not usually accepted.
If you do not have internet access please contact the school or use facilities at a public library.
Gymnastics Program
In Term 2, students in Kindergarten and Year 2 are participating in weekly Gymnastics lessons. Gymnastics supports the objectives that students ‘practise, demonstrate and perform movement skills in a variety of sequences and situations’ from the PDHPE syllabus and therefore it is expected that all students will participate.
Trained expert teachers, being supervised with the class teacher, will deliver a sequence of 8 lessons over the term which started today. All students participated today. Permission notes were sent home last term. The cost of the program is $20. The amount has been subsidised through Welling Being and Sport in Schools Grants. If you have any questions, please contact the school office.
Lion Awakening Ceremony
On Wednesday 15 May, our school will be holding a special cultural ceremony - Lion Awakening Ceremony. The ceremony will be held at 10.45am under the K-2 COLA. We invite families to join us for this special ceremony. We encourage students, teachers and families to wear cultural costumes or red.
