iPads:

We have been very impressed with the way that the Preps have been so responsible in using their iPads at school so far.

We do have a quick request though! If you have put a screen time limit / restricted access to websites on your child's iPad, it can limit what your child can access during the school day. Could you please check your settings and remove this feature for school hours. Otherwise, please pass the screen time code onto us and we can put that password in for your child, should they need it. Thank you for your help with this!

🧸Teddy Bear's Picnic: Next week!

🗞️News Groups: An Autumn treasure that I have found ...

Please help your child prepare by talking about how they are going to share this information with their group.

CURRICULUM

📚 Reading

Students will read decodable texts, using their knowledge of sounds to segment and blend words. We will look at some 'irregular' words, and discuss the parts of the word that need to be learnt 'by heart'.

Our decoding strategy for this week is continuous blending of the word (making the sounds stick together to help with remembering the sounds).

What can you do at home?

-Help your child to read their 'take home' book each night

-Explore the Reading Eggs library

-Make words with your sound cards and practise continuous blending

-Continue to revise the sounds on the sound/letter rings

📝 Writing

Students will continue to build their understanding of a sentence in order to say and write them with the essential elements: capital letter at the start, a 'who' or 'what' (noun), a 'do' (verb) and a punctuation mark at the end. They will respond to a range of picture prompts to help inspire their thinking.

They will practise handwriting, particularly the letter 'u'.

What can you do at home?

-Engage in fine motor tasks such as sorting, threading, writing, colouring, making, building, play dough and painting

-Reinforce correct entry and exit points for letters if your child writes at home

-Practise lower case letter formations on the app 'red writing'

🔡Phonics

Our phonics focus this week is learning about the letters 'j', 'w' and 'v'. They will learn their sounds and the cued articulation. They will also use these sound to create and read VC and CVC* words such as 'up', 'fit' and 'bed'.

(*Consonant - Vowel - Consonant)

What can you do at home?

-Ask: show me the cued articulation for 'j', 'w' and 'v'

-Find words with 'j', 'w' and 'v' in their take home books (or any others)

-Log onto Reading Eggs and try 'Fast Phonics' to practise letters and sounds

🔢  Maths

Students will explore the concept of length. They will use language to describe the measurement attributes of length using words like ‘tall’, ‘short’, ‘wide’, ‘long’ and ‘high’. They will compare pairs of objects to say which is longer/shorter, and demonstrate how they know (eg. for example, lining up the base of two objects to decide which is longer and explaining why).

Students will participate in a range of 'hands on' and play based experiences.

What can you do at home?

-Discuss the concept of length with your child. You could compare who's taller by standing back to back, or lining up two or more objects from the base to compare them

🌏 CBL - Country

We are learning about the 6 layers of Wurundjeri Country. Students will contribute to a class collage to create a visual representation of this learning.

💻 Cybersafety

Students will identify trusted adults who they can turn to, and ways to seek help, when they feel unsure or unsafe online.
