Principal's Report

It has been a busy week at WEPS this week. We started the week off with the Art Show on Monday night and what a fabulous evening it was. Congratulations to Mr Doak and all students for the effort and pride that goes into showcasing The Arts through music and visual arts. The student work displays were spectacular, the group and individual performances were incredibly impressive, the sausages in bread were delicious and how lucky were we to be spoilt with treats from our Kitchen Garden stall and sweets stall. A special shout out to Mr Doak for co-ordinating the evening, school council members – Elisia Nichol, Michelle Lyons and Emma Charlton for co-ordinating the sweets (and to all parents who contributed to baking and making the treats), our wonderful staff for always jumping in to help and thanks to all of you – our fabulous school community for always supporting our events and making time to connect with us.

On Tuesday night we were thrilled to warmly welcome many prospective families (foundation 2025) to our wonderful school, as well as some current families with children starting foundation next year. During the evening we showcased all the wonderful ways we work at WEPS, our school captains – Addi, Nick, Olive and Danny spoke and gave insight into their experiences at WEPS, our foundation classroom teachers provided an overview of how a day looks in prep, Alesha Gardner spoilt everyone with some lovely treats to show case Kitchen/Garden and we loved mingling and talking with everyone.

This week we have also had lots of families come through the school during our scheduled school tour times, which have been led by our school captains. We are so incredibly proud of our wonderful school and always love the opportunity to showcase the work we do. I would like to acknowledge and appreciate all staff at WEPS, as they are the ones who influence our flow each day.

If you have a child starting school next year, it is time to collect an enrolment form and return to the office by as soon as possible. Knowing the number of siblings we have in foundation next year, will support our planning for next year.

I am so excited to announce our Parent/Carer Handbooks are ready and will be sent home today. And, we have a new look website going live tonight too! We are so excited to share all updated info with you and hope it will assist with gaining even further clarity on how we work with  your children each day.

At WEPS, we are committed to seeking ongoing feedback which helps us to create strong relationships between our staff and students.

The Student Attitudes to School Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education, which is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of student experiences and perceptions about a range of areas, some including: academic rigour, student voice and agency, student behaviour, safety and student engagement.

We conduct the Attitudes to School Survey for Years 4, 5 and 6 students, and all students are encouraged to participate and share their voice about what the we are doing well, and areas in which we can improve.

In order to strengthen student voice and agency at WEPS, we are in the process of developing a Student Voice Team consisting of student representatives from year 3,4,5 and 6, as well as the school captains. The purpose of the Student Voice Team is to support our school improvement journey and provide opportunities for students to work with me, collaborate and make decisions that impact all students. They will regularly seek input of all students and lead improvement. More information about applying for the student Voice team will be published to parents/carers of students in grade 3-6.
