DISTRICT CROSS COUNTRY RESULTS & PHOTOS

We were spoilt with beautiful sunshine, cheering and a spectacular display of endurance and perseverance last Wednesday, 8th May, as 50 of our students from Year 3 to 6 competed for St Joseph's School at the Phillip District Cross Country event held at Tootgarook Reserve.  The 9/10 year olds completed 2 km, while the 11 year olds and 12/13 year olds completed 3 km around the venue.

We are told that our PE teachers from the Phillip District Schools provide the most professional of events of all districts within Victoria and every year we strive to improve in every tiny way possible from the set up, safety aspect, communication, comfort and convenience for parents/staff and the meticulous running of every event.  We are always open to feedback, so any suggestions are always welcomed.

Well done to all three children from the Cleary Family who qualified.  Special thanks also to Jannica Cleary, our running specialist, for conducting the warmups for each age group on the day. Community Cross Country Training will continue this Friday, even though Walk Safely to School Day is also on (8.10-8.40am).

Here are a few (or an album of) photos of some of the students as they competed at the District Cross Country event this year:

Special mentions go to students who made it into the top 25 for their events (out of up to 100 of the best runners from each school):

INDIE GALBRAITH - 15th in the 11 year old girls

PIA BRUECKNER - 18th in the  9/10 year old girls

HARRY MORTON - 20th in the  12/13 year old boys

MYLES BIRCH - 24th in the  9/10 year old boys

ACE HILL - close with 28th  in the 9/10 year old boys

  • As with Max and Bel, please note that Pia, Myles and Ace will be in the same age group and distance again next year. They've shown a great effort in these events as 8/9 year olds and show excellent potential for doing even better next year as 10 year olds.

We were so proud of each and every one of our St Joey's competitors and praise all students who completed such the hard and gruelling  2km or 3km event!

Warm Regards,
