Classroom Connections

Grandma’s toybox at the Melbourne Museum

In this excursion, our Grade 2 students identified with Hannah, a storybook character, who unpacks a family trunk full of old toys that have been handed down through the generations. They could identify with playthings from different historical periods. This workshop helped them with making differences and similarities between their daily lives and perspectives of life during their parents’ and grandparents’ childhoods, including family traditions, leisure time and communications. It also gave them a deeper insight on the effect of changing technology on people’s lives and their perspectives on the significance of that change.

As a follow up to the excursion students in year 1 reflected about what they would put in their toybox for future generations.

Congratulations to Max who designed our new Peer Mediation Station poster!
