Principal's Message

Mr Adam Beilken

Dear Parents, Caregivers, and School Community,

I would like to thank the whole school community for how you have welcomed me back since my return from long service leave. I had an amazing time with my family as we road tripped to Darwin and back. It certainly was a shock to the system acclimatising to the Perth weather after being in the top end for four weeks.

This term has started very well, and I am sure that we will have a busy agenda as me move throughout this semester. I look forward to seeing you all in the school and I am excited to see what work the children produce in the second half of this year.

2026 Enrolments

School enrolments for Kindergarten placements in 2026 remain open. We currently do not have a full cohort of students for 2026. If you or someone you know have a child that turns 4 before 30 June 2026, please come into the office and get an enrolment pack.

Children in Kindergarten that are currently enrolled at Marangaroo have received enrolment packs for re-enrolment for Pre-Primary in 2026. It is important that these documents are returned to school as soon as possible.

The Administration team have started to put their eyes towards planning for 2026. If you are aware that you are leaving Marangaroo at the end of the year, can you please inform your classroom teacher or administration. This will ensure that I am accurate with my planning and that I can ensure that the school is adequately staffed for 2026.

NAPLAN

The annual NAPLAN results were released to schools at the beginning of this week. I am pleased to announce that the Year 3 and 5 students performed well in the testing. Our Year 3 students achieved better results that our ‘like schools’ in 4 of the 5 tests that they sat. They were only slightly behind on the 5 test. The Year 5 students had better progress from Year 3 to 5 than peers around the state, and they made some big gains against their like schools from the Year 3 to Year 5 tests. I would like to acknowledge the wonderful teaching and learning that is occurring throughout the school, as it has certainly contributed to the results we achieved in NAPLAN.

Project Kaartdijin/Compass

The school has been working with the Education Department to replace the outdated database system that is used to track student data. The ‘go live’ date of Compass at Marangaroo is Tuesday 12 August. With this new system, there will be some changes that occur to how you communicate with the school. Currently, if your child is absent from school and we have not received communication from you, the school uses a third-party application to send you a text message. You are able to reply to this message, and we can log into the program and update our records. From Tuesday next week, Compass will be able to send messages to families for when students are not in attendance at school. You will not be able to respond directly to these messages as you have done in the past. The new text message that you receive will have a link that you will need to click on so that you can communicate the reason for your child's nonattendance at school.

Further changes will occur regarding communication from the school in coming weeks and I will communicate with families as the program goes live and we are aware of what changes will occur.

Meeting with Staff

In the last M Chat, I outlined the process for how the Marangaroo community can communicate with members of staff. At the last board meeting, the School Board reviewed the ‘Our Parent/Carer Communication Plan’. A copy of this plan has been included with the newsletter for you to read through. I just wanted to highlight that it can sometimes be difficult for teachers to meet first thing in the morning when they are setting up routines and welcoming students into the classroom. If you would like to book a meeting and you are on school site dropping off your child, please come up to Administration and we will coordinate a meeting time with the teacher and will communicate this to you.

Save the Date

The school will be holding an open evening in Term 3. Please diarise Thursday 4 September for this event. More information regarding this event will be provided throughout this term.

Please also save the date for the Athletics Carnival which is scheduled for later this term. Wednesday 10 September has been set aside for Jumps and Throws. Friday 12 September has been set aside for the Carnival. Please be aware that these 2 dates are subject to change depending on the weather forecast in the lead up to these events.
