St Peter's Feast Day Mass

Our St Peter's Feast Day Mass will be held at 9:45am at St Kilian's Church on the last day of Term 2. All are welcome to attend. Families are invited to a morning tea back at school after the mass.

Scripture Reading – Matthew 16:13–19

Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?”

And they said “Some say John the Baptist, but others Elijah, and still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” He said to them “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter answered “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” And Jesus answered him “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father in heaven. And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”

Summary

Jesus asks his disciples who people think he is. They give different answers, but Peter says Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God. Jesus praises Peter’s faith and tells him that this truth came from God. Jesus then gives Peter a special role as the leader of the Church, calling him the "rock" on which the Church will be built.

 Reflection

Peter had the courage to say who he believed Jesus was.

  • Do I speak openly about my faith and trust in God, even when it might be hard?

Prayer

Jesus,

Thank you for showing yourself to Peter and to us.

Help me to be strong in my faith and to speak with love and truth.

Guide your Church and help us to follow you each day.

Amen.
