A message from the Principal

Student Expo – Friday 27th June

It was wonderful to see so many families attend our Learning Expo this past Friday. We want to express our appreciation to all those who came to view the amazing work our students had on display. It was evident how much pride the students took in showcasing their learning, and the event was a great success, thanks to the support of our community.

Jen Roberts Farewell Reflection

On Friday, we gathered as a school community to bid farewell to Mrs. Jen Roberts, and it was a truly special occasion. Miggy Podosky returned to lead the Friday races, adding to the excitement of the day as part of this memorable event.

The farewell assembly, held in the Knuldoorong, was completely full, with parents standing outside the doors to listen in. We were honoured to have several special guests, including Jen's daughter, Matilda Roberts, former Co-Principal, Michael Chalkley, Fr. Junray, and St. Kilian’s Principal, Kimberley McSweeney.

I had the privilege of sharing a few words about the huge impact Jen has had on our school community over the past eight years. We were also joined by members of our School Advisory, Mel Tanner, Chris Ring, and Danielle Hanks, who presented Jen with beautiful flowers and a thoughtful gift. Additionally, student Tjandamarra presented Jen with a stunning leather-bound book from S.B. Libris, containing drawings and messages created by our students as a heartfelt farewell gift.

The were many emotional moments during the farewell, and to conclude we had a guard of honour that stretched from the office to the front gates. As Jen said goodbye to each member of our community, the song "My Lighthouse" played, making the farewell even more poignant.

We are deeply grateful for Jen’s leadership, dedication, and the incredible legacy she leaves behind at St. Peter’s. We wish her all the best in her new role at Holy Rosary Heathcote.

Dental Van Visit in Weeks 9 & 10

Martin Vale Dentistry visited our school over the past two weeks, providing dental services to several of our students. We are pleased to report that our students behaved excellently, and the process went smoothly. Great work to everyone involved!

Ngana-nganity Staffing Update – Term 3

From the beginning of Term 3, Alex Love-Linay will step into the classroom teacher role in Ngana Nganity while Mel Bradley begins her maternity leave. Alex already has strong relationships with the students and will teach from Monday to Thursday. Ebony Davidson will join the class each Friday to ensure consistency and support.

While Alex will continue as our Learning Diversity Leader, her time in this space will be reduced. To support this, Deputy Principal Sharee Whiteacre will take a more active role in Learning Diversity, and we are excited to welcome Lillian Daley back from maternity leave in late August to work part-time in this area. Together, they will ensure ongoing, high-quality support for all learners at St. Peter’s.

Reports for This Semester

Yesterday all student reports were able to accessed electronically via SimonEverywhere. This change allows for a more efficient and environmentally friendly way to share reports with families.

Instructions on how to access the reports was also sent home this week. If you have any questions or need assistance accessing the reports, feel free to contact the school.

We look forward to sharing the progress and achievements of our students with you at the upcoming Learning Conversations on Thursday 14th August.

2024 Annual Report for School Community

We are pleased to inform our community that the 2024 Annual Report is now available. This comprehensive report provides an overview of the school’s achievements, financial performance, and key initiatives over the past year.

The Annual Report can be found on our school website for easy access. We encourage all families to review the report and reflect on the progress we’ve made together as a school community.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss the report further, please feel free to contact the school.

Professional Development with Rob Vingerhoets – Monday, 30th June

On Monday, our staff participated in a Professional Development (PD) session with Rob Vingerhoets, a renowned maths consultant and educator. Thanks to a Victorian grant, we were able to enhance our staff’s skills in Maths differentiation.

Teachers spent half the day with Rob, focusing on effective differentiation strategies, and the other half in their regular classrooms. Meanwhile, our students enjoyed a special day of buddy activities. The Year 5/6 students paired with the Preps, and the Year 3/4 students worked with the Year 1/2 students. Throughout the day, the older students taught the younger ones new skills, followed by team-building and outdoor activities.

It was a wonderful day of learning, growth, and collaboration, and a great experience for all involved.

Passion & Pathways Senior Unit Community Dinner

Today our Year 5/6 classes will be hosting the Passion & Pathways Senior Unit Community Dinner from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm as part of their class project. The students have been preparing for this event throughout the term, working hard to plan, organise, and deliver a meaningful dinner for our school and local community. We wish our Year 5/6 students the best of luck with their initiative and look forward to the success of this exciting project.

We will be celebrating St Peter’s Feast Day Mass this Friday, 4th July, at 9:45 am. All families are warmly invited to join us for the Mass at St Kilian's, followed by a morning tea back at school. It’s a great opportunity for our community to come together and celebrate this important day in our church calendar.

Please remember, during the Mass, no students will be on-site, as we will all be at St Kilian’s Church.

A Moment in Prayer

Loving God,

As we come to the end of Term 2,

we ask for Your blessing on all our students, staff, and families.

Grant us a safe and restful holiday, so that we may return re-energised for Term 3.

May the time away provide us with moments of peace and reflection, and may we return with renewed strength to continue our journey together.

We ask this in Your name.

Amen.

God Bless,

Jeremy Darmody
