From the Assistant Principal, Cocurricular

Winter sport recommences this weekend with ISA Football and Tennis playing Round 8 of their competition and Rugby playing the first of a 3-week ISA/CAS combined competition before moving to ISA semi finals and finals.

Training has started back up for all teams.

Next week athletics training will start for the Term 3 Invitational Carnivals which commence in Week 4, and the ISA Carnival, scheduled for Week 9.

Over the break, Coerver, in conjunction with the SPX Football Club, hosted a fantastic Training Camp at Oxford Falls.  We also held basketball training camps at the college during the holidays.  Thank you to Danny Garrett and Mr Bourke for facilitating these days.

In addition, the 1st XV Rugby Squad had a hugely successful tour to Queensland, winning both their games.  Thanks go to everyone who made the tour possible.

Please ensure that your sons are correctly equipped for their respective sports.  With the cold weather prevalent now, the College tracksuit is recommended as a warm top layer for Saturdays. A reminder that football and rugby players should wear the new training tops to and from cocurricular fixtures, and also as a match day warm up top.  Other students should be in full sports uniform or Winter Uniform for Saturday Sport.

Summer sport registrations will open on Clipboard shortly. More information will be provided in the coming weeks.

I look forward to seeing you all throughout the term.

Mr Matthew Stearn - Assistant Principal, Cocurricular

Athletics

Athletics Training

Welcome back to Term 3! We're excited to announce that the Athletics season is about to begin, with training sessions starting next week. Training will run on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, commencing from Monday 28 July.

Please note: There will be NO training on Thursday 31 July.

Students will travel by school bus, departing from the front of the school on Anderson Street at 3:15 pm and heading to Dunbar Park, Sobraon Road, Marsfield. Training concludes at 5:00 pm, with return to school by 5:30 pm. Parents who wish to pick up their son directly from Dunbar Park are welcome to do so; please notify the supervising Pius staff on duty.

To participate, join us during the first week of training and/or notify Ms Lee (Senior Squad) at lee@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au or Mr Bourke (Junior Squad) at jbourke@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au.

Then, complete your registration via Clipboard. Please ensure that notifications are enabled both in the app and on your device to stay up to date with any changes.

Football

Welcome back to the ISA Football season.  We have 3 more weekend fixtures before semifinals and grandfinals. It was great to see over 50 students participating in the COERVER Football Camp at Oxford Falls over the break, with great feedback.  We look forward to running these camps again in 2026.

A reminder that all teams will have their photos this Saturday at Oxford Falls.  Teams are to meet their coaches at their allocated times (see below).  These photos will most likely occur on Chaplin 1 (main Rugby field) but will be dependant on the conditions on the day, such as light. Players must be in full playing strip and they must bring their ID cards for scanning.

Good luck to all teams.

Mr Simon Yue, Senior Football Convenor

1st XV Queensland Tour

A huge congratulations to all the students selected to represent the school on the 1st XV Rugby Tour of Queensland over the holidays. The team put in an outstanding effort, kicking off the tour with a dominant 60–7 win against St Joseph’s College Gregory Terrace, followed by another strong performance with a 29–10 victory over St Joseph’s Nudgee College.

Tours like this don’t happen without a lot of support behind the scenes. A heartfelt thank you to all the staff who made it possible, especially TryTime coach Mr Mike Cross for his leadership and guidance. We are also incredibly grateful to the teaching staff who generously gave up part of their holidays to support the tour: Mr Matt Stearn, Mr Dominic McGeekie, Mr Andrew Saar, Mr Justin Gates, and Mr Sean Brannan.

Representatives Honours

Congratulations to Jack Brown on his selection to the 2025 NSWSRU U18 Schools 1st XV team. The team went on to claim the title of Australian Champions for 2025, securing a decisive 28–11 victory over the defending champions, NSW 2, in a hard-fought final.
