Library Awards:
During June & July library awards were held weekly on Wednesday’s by our Year 5 leaders.
The following students were lucky enough to have their names drawn, and they selected their own personal books as follows:
All students who have borrowed from the library three weeks in a row get to place their name into our awards box from which these names are drawn.
With Term 3 having a such large focus on literacy at school i.e. poetry competition, study of the CBCA Book of the Year Awards, Book Week, etc., our author incursion was held at the end of last term.
We hope your children are enjoying the Adam Wallace book that each student received and you heard lots of positive feedback about this event. Adam is such an engaging presenter and his visit certainly did not disappoint! Adam’s books are definitely ‘hot property’ at the moment and it is such a delight to see everyone enjoying his wide variety of published texts.
The current Issue 5 Book Club brochures were sent home late last week. Scholastic’s promo code this month is ‘Every Book Club LOOP order will earn $5 to spend on the next issue’.
Orders are due in by Thursday 7th August.
Overdue books notices were printed off at the end of last term for books that were due for return or renewal as at the end of May for all students. Thank you to those parents who have managed to locate these items and/or returned the overdue notice with a note, if the items couldn’t be found at home.
If your child an ever brings home an overdue book notice and the book isn’t at home, please let us know so that we can have a more comprehensive look at school and if that fails to turn the book up, we can mark it as missing. It will also mean that our students can borrow without having to be queried every week as to where the books are.
With closing date of Friday 5th September there’s only 6 weeks to go till this year’s Victorian Premiers Reading Challenge ends for yet another year!! Thank you to those parents and/or our students themselves, who have entered their reading online using the usernames and logins sent home early in Term 2. If any families are unable to enter their child’s reading, feel welcome to send any reading records to school and we’ll arrange for entry here.
Reading requirements for successful completion of the Challenge are:
- Prep to Year 2 children are encouraged to read or ‘experience’ 30 books with their parents and teachers and children of which 20 are to be a challenge book on the Victorian Premier’s Reading Challenge booklist.
- Year 3 to Year 6 are challenged to read 15 books. 10 of these books are to be a challenge book from the VPRC booklist.
We always tell out students that the ‘best’ books are all included on the VPRC booklists. To make life as easy as possible for our parents, currently at Bimbadeen, all picture story books that are borrowed from the reading pit are books that are included on the booklist. They are easily identified as they are tagged with a VPRC sticker on the base of the spine.
Information about the Challenge is available online and individual LogIn codes should be either in your child’s reading diary or personal diary depending on the particular year level.
If you’d like to know anything further about the Challenge, our school’s Challenge coordinator, Tracey Johansen will be happy to answer any questions.
Till next time, happy reading everyone!!
