We can’t wait to embark on this wonderful adventure in learning and discovery with you and your child.
Religion
In Religion, students will learn about the life and teachings of Jesus and how God calls people to live in loving relationships with God, others and creation. They will explore Mary’s special role in Jesus’ life and reflect on how families, schools and Church communities help them grow in their understanding of God. Students will also learn traditional prayers of the Church, share their own prayers, and practise different ways of praying.
English
This term in Year 2, students will continue to develop their reading, writing and speaking skills across a wide range of learning areas. They will learn how to use language differently depending on who they are speaking to and the purpose of the task. Students will read and discuss a variety of texts, including stories by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander authors and illustrators, and compare characters and settings.
In reading, children will build confidence with phonics, fluency and comprehension strategies such as predicting, visualising and summarising. In writing, they will create short stories using clear structures, interesting vocabulary and neat handwriting. Students will also practise listening, sharing ideas, following instructions and expressing their opinions respectfully.
Mathematics
In Maths this term, Year 2 students will strengthen their number skills by recognising, ordering and working with numbers up to1,000. They will explore place value by breaking numbers into parts and understanding the role of zero. Students will learn to recognise and create number patterns, and build confidence with addition and subtraction facts.
In Measurement, children will measure and compare length, mass and capacity using appropriate units, and develop their understanding of time by reading calendars and calculating days between events.
Humanities
This term the focus is on History. Year 2 students will explore family stories and relationships, learning about where people were born, how families are connected, and how family roles and structures have changed over time. They will learn about a local historical site and how it has changed. Students will develop skills in using sources, identifying different perspectives, and understanding the causes and effects of changes in the past and present.
Personal and Social Capability
In Personal and Social Capabilities, students will develop skills for working collaboratively with others, including sharing responsibilities and contributing positively to group tasks. As this is a new class, students will focus on building new friendships and creating a positive, inclusive classroom community. They will learn how to recognise and manage conflict, and understand appropriate and respectful ways to respond in different situations.

Reminders
Uniform and Hats: Students are required to wear their summer uniform this term, including black school shoes. On sports days, students may wear the appropriate sports uniform. A school hat must be worn during playtimes. Students without a hat will need to play under the shadesails in the courtyard as part of our “No Hat, No Play”policy.
Lunchboxes and Fruit Break: Help us reduce waste by packing lunchboxes with minimal packaging and rubbish. Please include fruit or vegetables for your child to enjoy during our fruit break time, as this supports healthy eating habits.
Labeling Belongings: To avoid lost items, ensure all school uniforms, lunchboxes, drink bottles, and personal belongings are clearly labeled with your child’s name. Lost items can be checked in the lost property area at the student office.
Hair and Accessories: Students with hair longer than shoulder length should have it tied back for safety and hygiene reasons. This also helps in minimizing the spread of head lice.
Toys and Personal Items: We strongly recommend that students do not bring toys or other personal items from home to school to prevent loss or distraction during class time.
Arrivals and Departures: Please ensure students arrive on time each day to help them transition smoothly into their morning routine. If you need to collect your child early or if someone else is picking them up, notify the school office inadvance.
