This term, we are focusing on the novel Blueback, which connects to themes of sustainability. We are learning how to build our understanding of the text by exploring its setting, characters, and key messages. Our focus includes identifying and interpreting figurative language such as similes, metaphors, and personification, as well as understanding how dialogue, narrative point of view, and foreshadowing reveal character traits.

This term, we are focusing on persuasive writing. Students are learning how to present strong arguments, support their ideas with evidence, and engage the reader effectively. Our current focus is on the topic of single-use plastics, exploring whether they should be completely banned. We are developing skills in structuring persuasive texts, using persuasive language, and clearly communicating our point of view while considering different perspectives. Students have been demonstrating their creativity and skill by using techniques such as alliteration, personification, inclusive language, and modality words.

Last week, students focused on number concepts, including square numbers, square roots, prime and composite numbers, as well as factors and place value. They explored patterns, developed strategies for identifying different types of numbers, and applied their understanding to solve problems. Through hands-on activities and practice, students strengthened their number sense and built confidence in working with a range of mathematical concepts.
This term, students have been exploring the essential resources humans need to survive, including food, water, shelter, clean air, and safety. They have investigated the threats to these resources, such as pollution, over farming, deforestation, and climate change, and considered how sustainable practices can help protect them.
In Wellbeing, students have been noticing and celebrating moments of joy in their lives, reflecting on personal experiences, and exploring how shared experiences with peers can create happiness and connection. Through research, reflection, and creative activities, students are building their understanding of gratitude, and emotional wellbeing.
