Vermont Secondary College

Welcome to VCE Vocational Major 2026

The VCE Vocational Major (VM) is a two-year, hands-on applied learning program within the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) designed for students in Years 11 and 12 who prefer practical, real-world learning over traditional exams. It prepares students for apprenticeships, traineeships, further education, or direct employment.

We concluded 2025 with the demolition of our old portables. Sadly, this meant we lost our newly created vegetable garden—but not before we had the opportunity to harvest (and taste!) our vegetables. We now have the opportunity to start with a clean slate and plan and build new garden beds in 2026.

Our staffing for 2026 includes:

Year 12:

Narelle Trippett – Work Related Skills

Tom Smyth – Personal Development Skills

Emma Carberry – Literacy

Anthony Keatch – Numeracy

Year 11:

Peter Henderson – Literacy

Nelomi Venthan – Personal Development Skills

Sarah D’Arcy – Foundation Maths

Elective teachers – various, depending on the study

Students attend school three days per week and are all studying a VET program at TAFE. Several students have negotiated arrangements to attend school two days per week, complete a VET study, and work one day per week in an apprenticeship.

We look forward to the year ahead and will continue to participate in some of our favourite activities that build our young people’s personal skills. These include volunteering at the local library by delivering tech help to the community, Teen Trade at Bunnings, intergenerational connections, and raising awareness and collecting donations for Pinchapoo, which redistributes personal hygiene products to disadvantaged men, women, and children.

We have also already taken advantage of the interconnecting portables with the Year 11 Literacy and Year 12 WRS students working together to discuss learning tasks.  The Year 12 students read aloud the fables they wrote in Year 11 last year to the current Year 11's to help them with some ideas.  It was wonderful to see how far their confidence and communication skills have developed in the past 12 months while studying VM.
