Junior and Senior Choirs at Ironside

Ironside State School offers a range of choir opportunities to ensure every student who enjoys singing has the chance to participate.

Our choirs are fun, inclusive and engaging, focusing on building performance confidence while developing vocal and musical skills taught in classroom music lessons.

Students across all year levels will have opportunities to perform at school assemblies and participate in concerts throughout the year.

Year 1 and Year 2 Junior Choirs

The Year 1 and Year 2 Junior Choirs will commence in Week 3.

During Weeks 3 and 4, rehearsals will operate as informal “come and see, try it out” sessions.

From Week 5, choir rolls will be finalised, and students who choose to officially join will be expected to commit to rehearsals for the remainder of the semester.

Parents and carers of students on the finalised choir rolls will be added to an email correspondence list for ongoing choir communication.

Rehearsals are held during second break.

Students will be supervised while eating on the veranda outside the Music Classroom from 1:00pm to 1:10pm, before rehearsals take place in the Music Room from 1:10pm to 1:40pm.

  • Year 1 Choir: Mondays
  • Year 2 Choir: Wednesdays

Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 Choirs

To ensure every student in the upper year levels who loves singing has the opportunity to participate, Ironside is pleased to offer a Year 3/4 Choir and a Year 5/6 Choir.

Both choirs will commence in Week 3.

During Weeks 3 and 4, rehearsals will run as informal “come and see, try it out” sessions. From Week 5, choir rolls will be finalised, and students who choose to join will be expected to commit to regular rehearsals for the remainder of the year.

Parents and carers of students on the finalised choir lists will be added to an email distribution list for ongoing choir communication.

Research shows that singing together provides significant benefits for children’s learning and wellbeing, supporting memory, language development and attention, while also boosting mood, reducing stress, and strengthening social connection and confidence.
