Physical Education

From Kale Vagnoni and Mark Quinn, PE teachers
Hello and welcome back from the PE dept, we hope you’ve all had a restful AND active summer break.
Preps
Tiny people in a giant gym. We will continue to guide preps on a tour of all the different places PE sessions will happen throughout the year at Molesworth St; The Gym, Level 1 Outdoor Area and Basketball Court, Downstairs Ground Level outside turf area and basketball court…and even inside classrooms! As well as this we will continue our exploration of all the amazing ways we can move our bodies.
Year 1’s and 2’s
Slightly less tiny people in a now familiar gym. Some of our 1’s and 2’s have already hit the ground running, exploring Molesworth movement areas and getting back into the rhythm of small group movement work. Over the next few weeks we will be delving into Fundamental Movement Skills for some skill improvement with classic movements like; running, jumping, hopping, skipping, throwing, catching, kicking and rolling.
Year 3-6
Up at the Errol St campus we are officially kicking off the year with Game Sense. This will provide students with the opportunity to engage in Territory Games using a variety of sports equipment. The kids will be the big driver of how the games function and what rules are to be followed, so be sure to ask your 3-6’s over the coming fortnight all about the games they have been creating.
This year we will be including some of our core Health Curriculum concepts in the PE Dept Newsletter. The idea behind this is to give families a little more scope into the Health curriculum that is delivered in lessons throughout the year. These Health Hacks are designed to be a great talking point for discussions at home surrounding Health and Movement.
Body Bubbles: Being aware of the space immediately surrounding ourselves and others helps us move safely amongst groups of people and feel safe in social situations.
