Molesworth St Campus
From Caen Chang, Junior school Auslan teacher
Welcome to all of our new Prep students, and welcome back to our Year 1 and Year 2 students! It’s so lovely to see everyone again. I hope you all had a relaxing and happy break and are feeling ready for a fun year of learning.
Auslan is going to be very fun this year! We have started the year by getting to know each other, learning names, and building confidence in the Auslan classroom. It has been wonderful meeting the students and seeing their excitement and curiosity already.
This term, students will begin learning and revising the Auslan alphabet and numbers, which is an exciting first step in communicating using sign language. We will be practising finger spelling, playing games, and using lots of movement and visuals to support learning.
I am really looking forward to a great year in Auslan and can’t wait to continue learning together. I’m also very excited for Meet the Teacher Night, which will be a great opportunity to make more meaningful connections with parents and students and to share what we will be learning in Auslan throughout the year.
How can you support Auslan at home?
In this newsletter, I have included a copy of the Auslan alphabet and numbers. Please feel free to print it out and have it as a reference for home use. The more practice we get, the more refined our Auslan skills will be!
Thank you for your support, and I can’t wait for an amazing year ahead!
