Year 5 News

From Tessa Patrao, Year 5D teacher
Focus on new routines
In Grade Five we have spent the last week settling into our 2026 classes, getting to know each other and our new teachers.
The focus this week has been on learning the new routines for each session of the day.
In Reading we have practised our silent independent reading and conducted the pin drop test, which we passed!
In writing we have been learning to use different tools to expand and unpack our thinking, including ‘T-Charts’ and ‘See Think Wonders’. We have enjoyed sharing ideas during class discussions.
In maths we have been learning all about building a mathematicians mindset and we have had discussions about having a growth mindset, how mistakes help us learn and deep thinking being more important than speed.
We have played partner games and stretched our minds with problem solving tasks. We were really excited for our library sessions this week because as Grade Fives we are now allowed to borrow senior fiction and become a part of the Library squad!
