News from 3/4

What a great start we have had to the new year. We've spent a lot of time so far doing 'getting to know you' activities and learning our classroom routines and expectations. The students are doing a great job of showing our school values of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience.
Specialists
Like all the other classes, we have our specialist lessons on the following days:
Monday - Science and Library
Tuesday - Japanese
Thursday - Art
Friday - Sport
Homework
Homework folders have already gone home. Students are expected to read for 15 - 20 minutes each night. This is recorded in the homework folder. We know that parents are busy and sometimes get students to fill in the folder. This is fine, but we ask that parents sign at least once each week to confirm that what is recorded in the folder is accurate. In Years 3 and 4 most students will be reading 'good fit' library books for homework. Some students may be allocated alternative books to read over the next couple of weeks.
We have not started this yet, but homework will also include practice of multiplication and division facts. Students in Year 3 should recall multiplication facts and the related division facts for 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10. Students in year 4 are expected to extend this knowledge to facts for 6, 7, 8, 9, 11 and 12. Worksheets will be sent home for students to use to help them develop this fluency.
Interviewing each other
Here we are interviewing each other about our likes and dislikes and recording the answers like real journalists.
Seesaw
We will be using SeeSaw to share some learning this year. This week we have been working through some learning activities where we practise using the different Seesaw tools such as the camera and the eraser. You can connect to our class by clicking on the link below and selecting your child's name.

You will be able to view and comment on the work of your child and any group work that your child is in. They love reading comments from their parents!
Who's teaching?
This year, Lisa Bourke and Simone Traynor are sharing the 3/4 class. Both teachers work full-time. When Lisa is not in the classroom, she is leading Mathematics within the school and Simone is doing the same with Literacy. While Lisa is mostly in the classroom on Monday to Wednesday, and Simone from Wednesday to Friday; these days will be swapped at various times in response to our leadership commitments.
Please send all emails to both of us at:

We are supported in the classroom by Paula Cooper. Tahlia Thompson is also supporting our students while we await the return of Mrs McConachy.
We look forward to working with your children over the year!
