Mathematics Acceleration Program
Our school is excited to be participating in the Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) Mathematics Acceleration Program this year. This initiative partners our staff with the MACS Mathematics Team to further strengthen teaching and learning in our school and improve our student outcomes in mathematics. Through the program, our classroom teachers will engage in specialised professional learning focused on deepening mathematical content knowledge, effective teaching approaches, and the use of assessment to guide instruction. Throughout the year, I, as St Joseph’s Maths Leader, will also take part in regular meetings and learning walks with the MACS Mathematics Team. Over the coming weeks, each classroom teacher will spend a day in Melbourne working alongside teachers from other schools who teach the same year level, as they take part in the first mathematics professional learning session for this program. I look forward to sharing our learning journey with you.
Mathematics Assessments
During our beginning-of-year testing days, most students undertook the Mathematics Online Interview with their class teachers. This is a one-to-one task-based diagnostic tool used to assess students' mathematical understanding. Its purpose is to assist teachers in planning for the needs of all the students in their class. The foundation students will be completing their counting assessments over the coming weeks.
If you have any mathematics-related questions, please feel free to contact me.
