Wellbeing Update

Queensland Mental Health Week - Celebrating Connection and Wellbeing!

This week, our school came together to celebrate Queensland Mental Health Week, an annual event dedicated to promoting awareness and well-being throughout our communities. Each day was packed with engaging activities designed to encourage us to connect, reflect, and recognise the importance of mental health in our daily lives. This year’s theme, "Connect for Mental Health," emphasised four essential areas: connecting with self, community, others, and nature. These connections are crucial to building resilience, maintaining positive mental health, and creating supportive networks.

Here’s a look at how we celebrated each day:

Tuesday: We started the week with an Expo in the Quad, featuring external agencies like Open Doors and QPS, as well as live music, popcorn, and creative art activities. This lively event helped us learn about mental health resources, while creating an inclusive space to connect and share with one another.

Wednesday: Students enjoyed Gecko Wildlife, a hands-on experience that brought us closer to nature through animal encounters. Patting the animals, especially Bumpy the wombat, was a fun and relaxing way to reduce stress, appreciate the natural world, and connect with our environment.

Thursday: Despite some rainy weather, the Army Band filled the Quad with live music, creating an uplifting atmosphere. This day reminded us of the joy of shared experiences, where music connected us and lifted our spirits, even on a cloudy day.

Friday: We ended the week with a Silent Disco in the N Block Auditorium! Students danced, enjoyed music, and made new memories, all while respecting each other’s space.

It was a fantastic way to wrap up Mental Health Week, bringing us closer together and highlighting the importance of connecting with others in fun and meaningful ways.

Queensland Mental Health Week gave us the chance to focus on prioritising mental health for ourselves and those around us. We hope that everyone found inspiration to continue connecting with the people and communities that support their mental well-being, now and in the future. Let’s carry these valuable lessons forward as we build a more connected and supportive community!
