Over the recent King's Birthday long weekend , Presiyan Novakov, a Year 10 student at TGSHS, traveled to Perth, WA, to compete in the 2024 Australia Youth National Wrestling Championship, representing Wrestling Queensland. Competing in two divisions — 14-15 Years up to 75 kg and 16-17 Years up to 80 kg — Presiyan showcased remarkable skill and determination. His hard work was rewarded with a gold medal in the 14-15 Years division and a silver medal in the 16-17 Years category, an impressive accomplishment for a young athlete competing in multiple age groups.
Over the past year, Presiyan has made exceptional strides in wrestling, demonstrating rapid progress in both technique and strength. Training at the PCYC Lang Park wrestling club in Brisbane, he has shown strong commitment to improving under the guidance of experienced coaches and senior training partners. This dedication has not only refined his wrestling abilities but has also built the resilience and discipline needed to compete at the national level.
Presiyan's continued success is a reflection of his hard work and perseverance. With his ongoing growth and determination, he is well on his way to becoming a standout figure in Queensland wrestling.
Late last term our U14 Girls and Boys Futsal teams battled it out in the QLD Futsal Championships. Over the course of the tournament the teams scored a whopping 68 goals and only conceded 21. The Boys remained undefeated until the semi-final against St Laurence's college where they lost 6-4 after a well fought game.
The U14 Girls made it through to the final, where they played an incredibly close game. With an impressive penalty shoot-out, the girls stepped up to take gold! A shout out to Chloe W who was brave enough to step up and take the sudden death penalty and Sarah M for her impressive goal keeping.
In exciting news our U16s girls' team and the opens boys’ will now be going through to nationals to compete. We look forward to sharing these results later in the term.
Over the holidays our U14 girls' Touch Rugby League team competed for the first time. All the students had a wonderful time and represented the school with pride. Although we did not get the outcome we hoped for, the team showed massive improvement. A huge thank you to all the students for their energy and enthusiasm and to Mr Hottes and Mr Roberts for coaching the team. We look forward to seeing how the team does in future matches!
