Library visit
Mrs Champion had prepared a song on the interactive whiteboard for the children to sing: “Five little ducks”. Then she read a picture story book called “One Little Duck” to the group. The children took turns to guess which animal sound would be heard in the story next. Then, the group sang “Five little ducks” again, and waved goodbye to Mrs Champion.
Hatching dinosaurs
Today the children worked together to help dinosaurs to “hatch” out of eggs. I had frozen dinosaurs in baking soda eggs, and brought out vinegar and a pipette. The children took turns to draw the vinegar up into the pipette and then to drop it onto the dinosaur eggs. The children showed persistence, commitment and enthusiasm, and worked for about half an hour. They celebrated when the dinosaurs had “hatched”.
Red cabbage indicator experiment
ELC 3 conducted a science experiment, using red cabbage as an indicator. The children noticed that although it is called red cabbage, it is actually purple in colour. First, we mixed the cabbage with warm water in the blender, creating a purple liquid. Each child held a cup with some of the liquid inside, and chose whether they would like to add vinegar or bicarbonate of soda. The children took turns predicting what they thought would happen, then mixed the ingredients together. Those with vinegar (an acid) noticed that the liquid turned pink. Those with bicarbonate of soda (a base) watched the liquid turn blue.

4-Year-Old Kinder
As Term 3 draws to a close, I would like to take a moment to reflect on the many wonderful achievements and experiences that have taken place for the children in the ELC 4. It has been a term filled with learning, growth, special moments and we are incredibly proud of what our children, staff and families have accomplished together.
Some of the highlights of this term were the mini-Olympic games, our Father’s Day Breakfast, the book week parade and of course the excursion to the North Campus Farm which was smoothly coordinated with Mr Berry and Year 12 students. Thank you to Mr Berry for generous with your time and to all our wonderful parents for your time and support you have provided us through the ‘stay and play’ opportunities.
Like last term, we were blessed to have the Year 9 students visit the ELC again on the last day, to pray, to play and to help us move the big heavy furniture off the carpet.
We cannot wait to see what Term 4 holds and the many more events and learning that will happen. Have a safe and restful break.
See you in term 4!
