- Mr Andrew Monk
As this year's Mac House Boarding Captain, I am so grateful for the opportunities this role has given me. Boarding has shaped me as a person and allowed me to form lifelong friendships and unforgettable memories. Throughout my time as Captain and within boarding, I’ve had the chance to witness the fantastic sense of unity that thrives in Macdonald House. Whether within the House or in activities against Speirs House, we’ve built a community that supports one another through the ups and downs. Being able to contribute to a strong sense of belonging and watch everyone grow together has been one of the most rewarding aspects of this role. This week in the Boarding House, we celebrated with our last meeting of the term as we reflect on how the year has been and look forward to the Term 3 holidays.
I wish all our Mac House girls the very best over the holiday break and our Year 12 girls every success in their upcoming exams.
Each year, our Year 12 boarding students take their final walk down Myrniong Drive (our driveway to the Junior School), a route they've traversed countless times throughout their time at College. This symbolic journey marks a significant rite of passage for them, filled with emotion and reflection. As part of this tradition, students in Years 7-11 line the drive to applaud and celebrate their senior peers, acknowledging their contributions to the Boarding House community.
Parents and College community members are warmly invited to join us in honouring the Year 12 boarders and celebrating their achievements. Your presence will add to the significance of this heartfelt occasion.
With lighter mornings and evenings, the boarders have taken it upon themselves to be in the fresh air more frequently. It has been refreshing for our boarders to take advantage of the rowing sheds, Lake Hamilton, and the golf course.
Afternoon golf games are taken quite seriously, as is the dedication to pre-season rowing training. Morning walks are a wonderful addition to a stressful study routine for our seniors, too. Making the most of the serene surroundings and facilities is wonderful to see, as is the dedication to being fit and healthy, an important balance for the mind and the body.
We want to acknowledge Angus Rowe as our Boarder of the Week. Angus is balancing schoolwork, casual work, and sporting commitments. Angus has his mind set on a future in the agriculture industry; he enjoys his studies at RIST and works after school twice a week at a local agricultural store. Footy takes up a lot of his spare time, too, and although he couldn’t take out the win at the weekend’s grand final, he had a strong season rotating through the ruck for Caramut. Well done, Angus and all the best back home in Mildura for the holidays.
