Prep
The Preps have been very sneaky lately and have enjoyed working on a 'Secret Name Painting'. They have disguised the letters of their name amongst colours, patterns and magiclay; I wonder if you will be able to find them all!
Grade 1/2
These students have worked so hard to achieve such beautiful results with their weaving plates. Their patience to learn yarn knotting and circle weaving has been amazing.
Grade 3/4
These students have learnt about 'tint' and how to create 'value' (one colour going from light to dark). They mixed their own colours to create an ice-cream in the colour and flavour of their choice and are beginning to work on a 3D model of it. Yum!
Grade 5
The Buddy Bears for the new Preps starting in 2025 have begun! There has been many needles threaded and new stitches learnt to bring these teddies to life. The are looking forward to meeting their new owners at the final transition session later in the year.
Grade 6
The Grade 6s have certainly made their mark on their legacy tile project! We can't wait to see them glazed in colour after their bisque fire this week.
Performing Arts
State School Spectacular Performances
At the end of Term 3, our students took part in the Victorian State School Spectacular, Splash!, performing at John Cain Arena as part of the huge mass choir. Alongside hundreds of students from government schools across Victoria, they sang to an audience of nearly 10,000 people over two shows! The arena was filled with lights, music, and excitement, creating an unforgettable experience for everyone involved. Our students put in a lot of hard work to prepare, and they did an amazing job representing our school on such a big stage.
Performing Arts Club
Our Performing Arts Club, which began earlier this year, is back in Term 4 with a focus on Grade 1 and 2 students! Led by our Performing Arts Captains, the club meets on Thursday lunchtimes in the Performing Arts room, with the interest has been so high that we’ve split it into two groups, with each group meeting every two weeks. It’s a wonderful chance for our younger students to get involved in music, dance and drama in a fun and creative environment. Ask your child to see the Grade 6 Performing Arts Captains if they are interested in joining.
Physical Education and Sport
Eastern Regional Athletics Carnival
Last week, we had three students, Rachel, Emersyn and Victoria, compete and represent our school at the Eastern Region Athletics Carnival. They were competing against students from over 150 schools. Just to make it to this day is a wonderful achievement, as they had to successfully compete in the school, district and division carnivals.
Each of these students dedicated themselves to training and preparing to give their absolute best on the day. We are super proud of each of them for making it this far and thanks their families for supporting them to attend on the day.
Junior Hooptime Regional Playoffs
Last Friday, we had two teams, the Wizards and Wombats, compete in the Regional Junior Hooptime Playoffs, in the Future Stars Division. This was a rare and exciting opportunity for these students. On the day, both teams competed to the best of their abilities, and left nothing on the court.
We would like to thank the families of these children for supporting them on the day, especially those parents who volunteered their time and expertise to be a coach or team manager. We also thank our Grade 6 Sports Captains who ran several training sessions for these students in the leadup to the day.
We look forward to our Girls Allstar Team competing at the Regional All Stars Playoffs, which is coming up on Friday 15th November.
Maroondah Division T20 Cricket Blast
40 of our Grade 5 and 6 students are looking forward to competing at the annual Maroondah Division T20 Cricket Blast. This event is one of our highlights of the year! It is being held on Friday 8th November at Yarra Valley Grammar School.
Currently students are participating in weekly training sessions here at school, and will shortly be informed about which team they are in. Teams will be equally balanced, with an emphasis on each player having opportunity to enjoy the key elements of the game, batting, bowling and fielding, in a fun and inclusive environment.
We would like to thank those parents who have volunteered their time to attend on the day and be with their child's team.
Prep-Grade 4 Swimming Program
Recently, parents of students in Prep-Grade 4 will have received a Sentral Notification regarding a 5 session swimming program which has been organised for their child's year level. Due to upcoming maintenance works being completed at Aquahub, the program will be running at Croydon Memorial Outdoor Pool this year.
The program will be running over 5 consecutive days, with a 1-hour session each day. Level 1-2 students' program will run 18-22 November, with Prep, Level 3-4 running the following week, 25-29 November.
We thank the many parents who have already indicated they are available to assist as a volunteer for this program. A roster will be sent out in the coming weeks, confirming who is helping when.
STEM
Expressions
Students are jumping into their learning about aerospace and the dynamics of flight in STEM expressions this week. The oval will be out of bounds when the model planes and rockets are launched during this session. We were thrilled to see so many keen budding scientists sign up to the STEM expressions this term.
Grade 1 & 2
Students are thoroughly enjoying the hands on tasks they are completing to learn about all their different senses and how we use them in every day life, especially how they help to keep us safe.
Grade 3 & 4
Students are combining their scientific knowledge and design know-how to explore magnetism, electrical conductivity and how different types of materials use these attributes to be useful to our community.
Grade 5 & 6
The grade 5 and 6 students are being true STEM learners at the moment and are combining scientific knowledge of the Earth's structure, atmosphere and natural disasters to create an animated presentation using their technology prowess.
