Year 7 RISE Escape Room

Creating Futures Together

Year 7 RISE Escape Room Excursion

Our Year 7 RISE Project students recently took part in an exciting excursion to a local escape room—an experience that directly supports their current project: designing their own escape rooms based on a chosen UN Sustainable Development Goal.

For many students, this was their first escape room experience. It offered valuable insight into how puzzles, storytelling, and teamwork combine to create engaging challenges. Seeing these elements in action sparked fresh ideas and inspired creative approaches for their own projects.

The excursion also encouraged critical thinking and collaboration, as students worked together to solve problems under pressure. These are the same skills they’ll need as they bring their escape room ideas to life.

We’re excited to see how this hands-on experience shapes their final creations!

Student reflections

  • Last week, 7RISE was lucky enough to attend Escape X Experience. When we got there, we were greeted by two staff members. As we finished the briefing we were led into a room with our eyes closed…it was scary; no one knew what was going on until we heard KABANG! The door was locked behind us! As we all walked around a little confused, one of our teammates found the first clue. Then we were off! We were finding clues left, right, and centre, until we saw the clock…we only had 15 minutes left until death! We were all looking intensely for clues until, finally, we unlocked a new room. With 5 minutes left, we were all running around trying to find clues until we heard, “your time has come to an end”. We were all disappointed because we made it to the last clue. But in the end, we all had a great time and would definitely do it again!

  • There were many challenges and opportunities to think outside the box at escapeXperience, but the main challenges were definitely trying to reflect a code from another room using a mirror and a long wooden stick. But there were also many highlights as well, such as when we unlocked a whole new room. We thought that was the end but we just fell short of completing the amnesia escape room. It was very intriguing and would definitely like to revisit escapeXperience again for great time.

  • We were detectives in the 1920’s figuring out a murder case while hiding from the murderer. The highlights were how fun it was and how we worked together to solve clues. The challenges were trying to escape without the murderer knowing. We stayed quiet and solved the tasks together and efficiently so we could escape. I learned that I like to do things one by one instead of doing everything at the same time.

  • The escape rooms at escape experience were a fun spine-tingling challenge, that forced us to think out of the box and use teamwork. We were stuck in a small room with a bed in the middle, a doctor’s desk next to the door, and fake doctor and patience ID’s. From then on, we were forced to use teamwork skills to find codes to help us create an antidote for a virus and escape the room.

  • EscapeXperience was an event that we will never forget. On the 7th of May, 7RISE went to EscapeXperience in Oakleigh. We split up into 3 different groups. Our group did the ‘Amnesia’ escape room, which consisted of very hard puzzles and enigmas that we needed to solve. We started in a room that seemed like a hospital ward. The room had many items and clues to help us find the antidote for a sickness, that was soon to kill us in an hour. After many lock combinations solved and riddles deciphered, we got into another room which contained the antidote. In this room, there were still had puzzles to solve with little time, and we failed. Although we didn’t get out of the room, we all had fun and going to this escape room will be an unforgettable experience.

  • We went to EscapeXperience and my group did clockworks. The highlights were when we opened the first door and when we put these sticks on this closet it makes music, which was one of the clues. The biggest challenge was when our group had to find this code on a hammer, which we couldn’t find, but it was right in front of us the whole time. We were able to overcome it because with a clue, but overall, it was really fun and would do it again!

  • When I was in the escape room, I noticed everyone in the room was working together and if we all worked individually the chances of escaping would be low. To escape, we all had to work together, we were so close that we were a key away from succeeding. Some of the challenges we encountered in the escape room, were when we had a puzzle to solve, and everyone tried to look at it and were arguing about how to solve it. What we did was take turns and have the other people look at the other puzzles to try and figure out how to solve them

  • We entered the Burlesque escape room and had to solve mysteries and puzzles in order to escape each room. We started off splitting into groups and solving each of the locks, orange, green and blue. Once we figured all of those, we entered a second room, with more puzzles and a hanged manakin. My favourite part was when the murderer came in and all the lights turned off and left behind some clues for us. We were able to solve the clues by collaborating with each other and listening to what others have discovered.

  • There were eight of us in a crowded hallway, then we all got crammed into a tiny room. We had to crowd around a little box to solve puzzles, and we kept butting heads. Eventually we split up and worked much better. We kind of needed our numbers though, because that escape room was hard! The puzzles were moderate, but getting through them all fast enough was difficult.
