Mrs Anna Nasr

Prayers

We pray for staff member Rebecca Taylor, her son Conrad (Old Boy 2024) and daughter Miranda mourning the loss of Peter, beloved husband and father, who has tragically passed away from cancer following a diagnosis last year. We pray with Rebecca and her family and friends that Peter may rest now in the peace of God who loved him so much.

We continue mourn the death of Pope Francis who led the global Church with humility and love, and we pray for the cardinals as they discern the question of his successor. May the Holy Spirit guide them.

Community Masses

Our regular Monday 1st Break, Wednesday 8am Masses are on this week. We will celebrate with Gilroy House tomorrow morning, but all are very welcome to attend.

Our Friday 1st Break mass will return next week.

Gospel Reflection

Excerpt from 2nd Sunday of Easter, 27th April – John 20:19-31 (JB)

In the evening of that same day, the first day of the week, the doors were closed in the room where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews. Jesus came and stood among them. He said to them, 'Peace be with you,' and showed them his hands and his side. The disciples were filled with joy when they saw the Lord, and he said to them again, 'Peace be with you.

'As the Father sent me

so am I sending you.'

After saying this he breathed on them and said:

'Receive the Holy Spirit.

For those whose sins you forgive,

they are forgiven;

for those whose sins you retain,

they are retained.'

In Sunday’s gospel, the Risen Jesus appears to reassure the disciples who are frightened and hiding behind closed doors. Jesus breathes on those gathered saying “Peace”. But Thomas who is doubtful. When Jesus returns, he reassures Thomas, telling him to touch his hands and side, and Thomas declares his faith. Like Thomas, we experience with doubt on our faith journey. To doubt and question is human, but as ‘pilgrims of hope’ in this Easter season, we ultimately place our trust in Jesus who was raised to life by God. Easter Joy and Hope keeps us walking together and helping one another in difficulty and dark times. We support each other and pray for one another.

+ Risen Christ,

You breathed on your disciples your Spirit of peace and hope.

Walk with us, we pray, on our journey of faith.

Help us to share your message of love and forgiveness with the world.

Be with us when we face obstacles and stumble on the path.

May we have the strength and resilience to continue

And show kindness and compassion to others in their time of need.

May we be pilgrims of hope and people of Easter joy.

Mary our good mother – pray for us

St Marcellin Champagnat – pray for us

St Mary of the Cross MacKillop – pray for us

And may we always remember – to pray for one another

Amen.+

Anzac Day Liturgy

Our Anzac Liturgy was held last Wednesday, with students, staff and guests gathering to reflect on loss and sacrifice in times of war, and to recognise all those who have served and continue to serve our country in the name of peace. Guest speaker Peter Travers, a parent at the college, conveyed his immense gratitude for the skills learnt and friendships forged during his time of service in the defence force. Through listening and remembering, singing and symbolic action, we echoed Pope Francis’ Easter Sunday prayer for peace throughout our world.

I would also like to thank our cadets for their involvement in the liturgy, we are grateful for their planning and preparation and the solemn way in which they entered into the spirit of Anzac Day.

Lenten Fundraising Day

I would personally like to thank Mission team members for their extraordinary efforts in making the Lenten Fundraising Day happen. After being cancelled in Term 1 due to Cyclone Alfred, the day was rescheduled to last Thursday. Despite heavy bursts of intermittent rain, the day was a massive success! My thanks and admiration go to our Youth Minister, Mikael especially for his genius organisational skills, energy and leadership before and throughout the entire the day with his trusted sidekick Mrs Jenna Harding always at the ready to carry the load! The effort involved in coordinating an event like this cannot be overstated. Thanks too, go to our amazing Year 12 student leaders who set up and ran stalls with enthusiasm and dedication, ensuring everyone could get involved, get fed and have fun.

In praise of the Pink family!

We are immensely grateful to the Pink family who very generously donated a HUGE amount of fairy floss. It was agreed by all that the fairy floss was “the best”! Thank you to the Pink family!

We’d like to thank EVERYONE for getting behind the fundraising day and helping us give a helping hand to St Joseph’s Tenaru via Australia Marist Solidarity (AMS)! We will soon be able to let you know how much was raised.
