 Intermediate Boys Netball

On Thursday the 1st of May, the Intermediate Boy’s Netball Team travelled to Ballarat to compete against a range of other schools. With several students away due to VET classes, we managed to scrape a team together, however we had no players on the bench.

In our first game we came up against Mount Rowan. After a blistering start by Tom Kehoe in the Centre and some big intercepts from Dillan Wade, we took the victory 14-7. Next, we faced the always strong Ballarat High School, who were very tall and quick, and even had a shooter who could dunk! Despite some incredible defensive efforts from Goalkeeper, Liam Sage, we went down by 1 goal, 11-12.

Our third and fourth games were against Mount Clear and Woodman’s Hill. Fortunately, we won both games, 17-3 and 14-0 respectively. Billy and Zavier stood tall in defence, as we marched into the Grand Final for a rematch against Ballarat High School.

With a huge crowd cheering the boys on, Baxter White led from the front, keeping the margin to 2 at half time, in favour of BHS. But it was all Beaufort from there. With Harry achieving almost 100% shooting accuracy and the entire team doubling down on their effort across the board, we won the final by 1 goal, 11-10.

Advancing to the next round, the team will go on to play at the Greater Western Region competition in Colac, later this term. Congratulations on an amazing effort and thanks to Mr Sev for coaching, as well as Miss Wigg and Toby Wheeler for all their help on the day and at training.

Year 8 Boys Netball

Our Year 8 Boys Netball Team also competed at Llanberris on the 1st May, however despite their best efforts, the boys walked away with a draw and two losses for the day. Alongside our Girls Football Team, who arrived at Llanberris just prior to the Intermediate Boys' final game, the Year 8 Team went on to be an outstanding cheer squad for the Intermediate Boys during their Grand Final performance.

Intermediate Girls Football

On Thursday the 1st of May, we headed to Ballarat High for the Intermediate Girls Football competition. In the lead-up, we had been training at lunchtimes, working on our handballing, kicking, and tackling. Our team was a mix of girls from Years 7 to 10, with Evalyn Hayward as our Captain and Milly Kerr as Vice-Captain.

Unfortunately, one school pulled out just days before the event, meaning we only had one game to play, against Ballarat High. After a solid warm-up and some motivating pep talks from Miss Hughes, we were rearing to go.

It was fantastic to get out there and play together as a team. Izzy Cahill dominated at full back with some huge kick-outs, Lexi Bucknall was unstoppable, and Eliza Bourke worked hard through the midfield. Everyone played their role on the day.

Despite a tough loss, we were so proud to pull a team together and have such a fun day. The bonus of only one game meant we finished early and were lucky enough to grab some hot chips for lunch before heading over to watch the boys play in their netball Grand Final.

Well done to all the girls who played—you represented our school with pride. We can’t wait to see how the team develops over the next few years. A big thank you to Mr Trigg for goal umpiring and Miss Hughes for coaching and organising the day!
