Welcome to Term 2!
We hope you had a refreshing break from the school routine and enjoyed some quality time with family and friends — hopefully with a few sleep-ins as well! It’s been a pleasure reconnecting with our students and hearing all about their holiday adventures. It’s also been great to see everyone settling smoothly back into school life.
On Tuesday, our Year 6 students received their secondary school transition forms. Thank you to all families who have already returned these promptly. We’ve also begun preparations for our upcoming camp. Please ensure you’ve registered via the Camp Portal and returned any necessary forms to school.
There’s a lot to look forward to this term at Scoresby PS! Be sure to stay updated through the school newsletter and Compass posts for important dates and upcoming events.

What We Are Learning
What We Are Learning In Specialist Classes In Term 2
Visual Arts
Students will begin the term experimenting with watercolours to create a jellyfish scene. Most of the term will be focused on construction and sculpture skills in which students will use recycled materials to create a steam punk animal. Students will explore different methods and glues for attaching objects, points of contact for stability, layering and texture. They will create a metallic effect using a dry brushing technique.
*You may be wondering why students did not bring home all their Term 1 artwork. There will be an Art Show in Term 4, so I am keeping some of your child’s art as I plan to include 2 pieces from every student in the show. All masterpieces will be returned at the end of the year.
Cultural Studies
Cultural Studies has been introduced to all students this term. Each term the whole school will have a focus, and a cultural day or activity will be planned at the end of each term. The focus for the term starts off with Our World and then narrows to take an in-depth look at Australia. There is a damper day planned for the end of term.
This term, Year 5 /6 students will explore the 7 continents of our world, the 5 oceans, various seas, and then focus will turn to Australia. Students will be looking at the six Australian States and two Territories and their capital cities. Students will learn about various natural features that can be found in Australia, and explore the tourism opportunities that they bring.
Performing Arts
In Performing Arts this term, students will rehearse with classroom instruments in an ensemble setting. They will have some autonomy over the parts they focus on and their instrumental positions. Students will be encouraged to learn multiple parts and attempt multiple instruments for each piece of ensemble repertoire. There will be a focus on pitch and harmony including the recognition of intervals and their qualities. Students will study and rehearse various melodies to support music theory understanding.
Physical Education
This term in PE, students will revise all of the athletic events that make up our District Athletics Carnival. They will be given time to practise their skills before participating in trials for our District Athletics team. All students will participate in a golf clinic provided by the Sporting Schools Program.
Science
This term in Science we will focus on the area of Chemical Science. We will learn about matter and the different states it can exist as. We will explore the properties of these states. We will conduct experiments to investigate what causes reversible and irreversible changes in matter. We will plan and practise an experiment to present to our junior school and community at our Science Fair later in the term.
Reminders
Homework: Due every Friday – please ensure it is completed and given to your classroom teacher on time.
- Camp notices: Please return all forms for camp as soon as possible.

Fun With Family Games Afternoon
On Sunday 27th April, Emily, Dante and Tommy ran a family event called Fun With Family (or F.W.F.). On this day, we were raising money for Vicky Clark, who helps take care of our wildlife. We raised over $100 in entry fees alone, and people also donated 10c cans towards the fundraiser. Everyone who attended had the option of cordial, warm tea or coffee. Families had the opportunity to play games together such as Twister, Connect 4, Battleships, and many more. This event was inspired by students who attended a leadership conference in Term 1, and our hard work and organisation finally paid off. Thank you to everyone who came and supported this leadership-led event.

House Cross Country
On the 1st of May, our whole school participated in our whole school House Cross Country. We started with the Preps, who ran once around the school oval to complete their part of the Cross Country. Then the 1/2s took their turn, each completing a lap of the oval. Once the grade 1 and 2 students had finished, the 3/4s began their race. As the 3/4s ran, everyone on the sidelines was cheering on their friends as they passed by the schoolyard. Next up were the Under 11 boys. As soon as the whistle blew, the boys flew past everyone, with cheer squads loudly supporting them. The Under 11 girls were next. They started off strong but soon settled into a steady pace. They completed their laps successfully and were awarded ribbons: Leila came 1st, Gracie came 2nd, and Madison came 3rd. It was a great race and a successful finish for all. Then came the Under 12 and 13 girls, who sprinted their hearts out for the first minute and a half. Summer came 1st, Emily 2nd and Mia 3rd. The Under 12 and 13 boys’ race was full of action. Jake, Eason, Jaxon, Jonas and Noah - who are all good friends - had to race against each other, each determined to take 1st place. Jake had a strong lead and stayed ahead for the entire race. It all came down to the final 20 metres! Jake finished strongly and came 1st, Eason came in close at 2nd, and Jonas followed in 3rd. Overall, Cross Country 2025 was awesome!

Victorian State School Spectacular Rehearsal
On the 28th of April, 16 students proudly represented Scoresby Primary School at a special dance rehearsal. We travelled to The Basin Primary School, where we had the opportunity to practise all the dances we had already learned, as well as learn some new ones. The staff and students at The Basin first watched us perform the dances we had previously rehearsed at Upwey South Primary School during our first rehearsal. In two months, Scoresby Primary School will be attending the next rehearsal to continue preparing. Miss Crofts has been guiding and supporting us throughout the process, helping us to learn and improve our dance routines.
