This week I spent some time in the Year 12 Art class. Annie, Poppy and Georgia shared the work they have been undertaking since the start of the year. It was interesting to hear about what they were focussing their research on and the artists they had investigated. I can't wait to see them begin work on their products.
I popped into the stadium to see the 3-6 students taking part in the STOMP program. There was a lot of enthusiasm and energy in the space. As a drama teacher I was very impressed with the facial expressions they were bring to the dance.
On Monday night I met some parents and community members at several meetings including school council. It is pleasing to see the school is well supported. Some highlights from these meetings included; the Infrastructure Committe wanting to develop a master plan for the landscaping of the grounds, the SLC proposal for new bubble/drink taps and suggestions as to where they might be held and the and the introduction of a new camp for Year 11/12. This retreat is designed to help with the mid-year slump we usually notice with our hard-working VCE students. The camp will offer them opportunity to reflect on the semester, set new goals for the next semester, home in on key skills for success with VCE or VCE-VM and provide an opportunity to bond. We acknowledge that information regarding the camp is a little later for parents that we would hope and we look at our processes to ensure there is greater notice moving forward.
Following the meeting, I headed off to The Vale of Avoca to stay the night. Thank you to Benno and Carmel for their hospitality and welcome to the town. The flowers to take to school the next day were a lovely touch. I am enjoying getting to know place and people in this wonderful community.
We value student voice as a means to improving student engagement, wellbeing, and quality instruction, and are conducting a survey to find out what your child thinks of our school. The Attitudes to School Survey is an annual student survey offered by the Department of Education and Training to assist schools in gaining an understanding of students' perceptions and experience of school. Our school will use the survey results to plan programs and activities to improve your child's schooling experience.
This year the Attitudes to School survey will be conducted at our school over the period Monday 26 May to Friday 6th June. Students in years 4 to 12 will undertake the survey. The survey only takes around 20 minutes to complete and occurs during your child's class time.
All survey data that is made available in reports are for groups of students only so that no individual student can be identified. Please refer to Compass or contact Kim Fitzpatrick at the College for further details.
This term the College has had two students from Year 6 selected to participate in the VHAP Numeracy program. These two students have been thoroughly enjoying their sessions, learning about different number systems and this week indices. Both students have had high involvement in the sessions. They have contributed to the online conversations and displayed strong understanding. They have been great representatives for the College. Keep up the great work!
Breakfast Clubbers enjoying toast and milos, thank you Danielle for putting on a great spread!
